We are looking for a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist to join the Pain Service working 30 hours per week, based at the Royal Devon University Hospital (RDUH), in Exeter. You will work alongside other psychologists and RDUH colleagues such as physiotherapists.
Main duties of the job
The role is dynamic and challenging. The post holder will work closely with members of a multidisciplinary Pain Management Rehabilitation Service including Clinical Psychologists, Consultant Specialists, Nurses, Physiotherapists, and Occupational Therapists. They will also be part of the wider Clinical Health Psychology & Neuropsychology services at the Royal Devon University Hospital (RDUH) Trust, with opportunities for teaching, supervision, CPD, and research.
You will be part of an innovative and supportive clinical health psychology & neuropsychology service within the Trust serving the RDUH Trust across both its Exeter and North Devon sites. You will have access to professional support and potentially further training initiatives linked to the job role.
The post involves working alongside other psychologists in the pain psychology service in delivering assessments and individual psychological therapies for people with persistent pain. The psychology team is embedded within the multidisciplinary Pain Management Rehabilitation Team and works closely with consultant and nursing colleagues. You will have the opportunity to contribute to MDT meetings, work with other professionals, and deliver group interventions.

Job purpose
The principal purpose of the job is to improve the psychological health & wellbeing of people with persistent pain and related disorders who attend the Royal Devon University Hospital (RDUH) Pain Management Service.
This will be achieved by:
1. Providing a Clinical Psychology and Psychological Therapies service to the Pain Service at the RDUH, forming a key component of integrated mental health and wellbeing services.
2. Contributing to the local clinical leadership, coordination, and supervision of staff, trainees, and volunteers within the Pain Management Rehabilitation Service.
3. Caring for a specialist caseload of clients and providing advice and consultancy to patients, family members, carers, and professionals.
4. Receiving support from Professional Leads and senior colleagues within the Pain Management Rehabilitation Team Psychology Service.
5. Working autonomously within professional guidelines and exercising responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice.
6. Receiving regular professional and clinical supervision in accordance with Trust policy and Professional Practice Guidelines.
Person Specification
Experience
* Broad knowledge of specialist services and of the services in the NHS where psychology is commonly applied.
* Experience and/or training in diversity awareness and social inequality.
* Proficiency in both individual and group therapy approaches is desirable.
* Experience of working with complex trauma and systems around people who have experienced trauma.
* Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment across various care settings.
* Experience of teaching, training, and/or supervision.
* Experience of neuropsychological assessment and awareness of the impact of neuropsychological symptoms.
Qualifications
* Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (D.Clin.Psychol. or equivalent) and eligible for Chartered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist Status.
* Registered with HCPC.
* Further training in a related area.
* Further training in at least one other psychological therapy.
* IT Skills.
Other
* Ability to integrate complex data and make highly skilled evaluations and decisions.
* Proven organisational, planning, and time management skills.
* Ability to work independently and use initiative within a network of teams.
* Ability to work as a member of a clinical team.
* Ability to tolerate ambiguity and maintain morale and motivation in challenging contexts.
