Current nephrology services at the WSH include inpatient management of renal patients on ward F8 - encompassing patients with acute kidney injury, management of patients with CKD and review of dialysis and transplant patients. There is a strong emphasis on early detection and management of patients with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and overseeing referrals of such patients form a significant proportion of the workload. There is a joint nephrology-critical care ward round of ITU patients weekly. Outpatient services include weekly general nephrology clinics, a transplant clinic, a low clearance clinic, monthly diabetes/renal clinic held jointly with Dr Marath (Acute Medicine/Diabetes) and a paediatric transition clinic held with Dr Christian on a 6 monthly basis. There is a monthly cardiorenal MDT, and Nephrology support for the Medical Obstetrics clinic is provided on an ad hoc basis. Tertiary level nephrology care is provided at CUH including acute transplantation and vasculitis.Currently the Dialysis Unit is supervised jointly by Dr Chong and Dr Petchey. The Nephrology service is currently expanding with Virtual Ward for Acute Kidney Injury and Nephrotic Syndrome. We have a clinical nurse specialist whose main focus is the transplant and pre-dialysis service. There is an expectation that enhanced renal diagnostics and vascular access procedures will be repatriated from Addenbrookes Hospital to the Trust in the next 12 - 24 months.
