Job summary
Are you passionate about working with older people with both dementia and complex mental health conditions in an inpatient setting? Are you enthusiastic about being part of a supportive, effective, and forward-thinking ward team? We are looking to recruit a Clinical Psychologist at Band 8a, with real enthusiasm to work across both the Older People's Mental Health (OPMH) organic inpatient service, Elmwood Ward (0.5wte), and the functional mental health inpatient service, Beechwood Ward (0.5wte), at Parklands Hospital.
Main duties of the job
As a Clinical Psychologist (Principal) in the Older Peoples' Mental Health inpatient service, you will:
1. Work as an autonomous, independent practitioner responsible for your own work and intervention.
2. Implement a psychological therapies service to OPMH patients on an organic inpatient unit (Elmwood Ward).
3. Provide psychological input onto a mental health inpatient unit (Beechwood Ward).
4. Undertake complex assessments and consultancy, providing expert advice to colleagues and the wider clinical multi-professional team.
5. Provide specialist treatment for complex cases and plan and prioritize your clinical workload.
6. Comment and propose changes to policy or service development within the area psychological service and team.
7. Provide specialist supervision for trainee psychologists and psychological guidance for multidisciplinary clinical colleagues.
8. Undertake research and development and encourage a research culture within the wider clinical team.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* DClinPsy or DCounsPsy including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.
* HCPC Registration
Desirable
* Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
Experience
Essential
* In-depth experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a range of care settings.
* Experience working with a wide variety of client groups across the life course.
* Demonstrate specialist training/experience through a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision as an applied psychologist.
* Experience within a Community Mental Health Team or inpatient service within the NHS.
Desirable
* Experience of teaching, training, and/or supervision.
* Experience in older people's mental health.
* Experience working with people with behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia.
