Job Advert: SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Accrington Contract: Full-time (term-time only) Salary: Dependent on experience We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team in a mainstream primary school in Accrington. This is a rewarding opportunity to work on a 1:1 basis with a Year 3 pupil with complex needs, including ADHD and ASD. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the child’s progress, safety, and well-being within a structured and supportive environment. Key Responsibilities: Provide 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). Implement and support a structured sensory timetable and provide frequent breaks when required. Foster engagement and enthusiasm in all tasks while maintaining a calm and encouraging presence. Prevent and diffuse dysregulation, following the pupil’s risk assessment and working closely with a specific team of staff members for additional support. Adapt activities and devise bespoke learning strategies to ensure the pupil’s needs are met effectively within the classroom and during bespoke sessions. Communicate and prepare the pupil for any changes to their routine, valuing their input and ideas. About You: We are looking for someone who is: Calm, enthusiastic, and patient, with the ability to build positive relationships with the child. Experienced in working with children with ASD, ADHD, and behavioural challenges. Knowledgeable and confident in implementing behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques. Passionate about inclusive education and able to adapt approaches to meet individual needs. Desirable Skills and Experience: Previous experience in an SEN or TA role. Knowledge of implementing and supporting sensory and structured timetables. A strong understanding of the challenges faced by children with ASD and ADHD.
