About Us: Gregory Group operates one of the largest and most diverse fleets in the UK, with over 3500 assets across four businesses, working with leading customers across all industry sectors. As Group Fleet Engineer, you will provide technical expertise to operational teams, build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure the highest levels of asset uptime through compliant and cost-effective management.
Job Description: At Gregory Group, we are seeking a Group Fleet Engineer to support our central fleet department in delivering class-leading vehicle safety and compliance while ensuring the lowest Total Cost of Ownership. Reporting to the Head of Fleet Engineering, you will play a critical part in implementing exemplary maintenance standards across the group.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and oversee the specifications for all group fleet assets, including specialised equipment, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and understanding the commercial impact. This includes creating detailed specifications for new HGVs to ensure they meet legal requirements and are cost-effective for the company.
2. Stay updated on legislative changes, communicate their operational impact, and manage supplier relationships proactively. This involves monitoring new emissions regulations and working with suppliers to ensure all fleet vehicles comply with the latest standards.
3. Conduct and support engineering investigations following the RCI reporting process, and implement preventive measures. This means investigating the root cause of recurring mechanical failures in specific vehicle models and implementing changes to prevent future occurrences.
4. Collaborate with Senior Managers across the Gregory Group to provide technical fleet support, contributing to business improvements and customer programs. This involves being the point of contact for operational sites and implementing a strong fleet presence throughout the network.
5. Manage relationships with OEMs and key fleet suppliers to support the group's sustainability goals. This involves negotiating with vehicle manufacturers to incorporate more sustainable technologies into the fleet.
6. Use Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) data to guide fleet replacement cycles and assist with fleet budgeting alongside the wider fleet team. This includes analysing TCO data to determine the optimal time to replace aging vehicles, balancing maintenance costs with the benefits of newer models.
7. Promote continuous improvement in fleet assets by working closely with internal and external stakeholders. This involves implementing good practice initiatives throughout the business and supporting the operational teams where required.
8. Implement best practices through collaboration with various stakeholders. This involves sharing successful maintenance strategies across different departments to ensure consistent vehicle performance.
9. Support the auditing process for operational and service provider compliance. This includes conducting regular audits of service providers to ensure they meet the company's standards for vehicle maintenance and safety.
10. Present and explain technical subjects to operational and compliance teams effectively. This involves delivering presentations to both internal and external stakeholders on various topics to inform on fleet developments and initiatives.
