Safehands Healthcare are recruiting 1 Female* member of staff to support throughout the week and occasional weekend cover!
We provide round-the-clock support packages to support adults, who have long term health conditions, to live in the comfort and safety of their own home.
In a village near Cirencester, we are seeking experienced staff to work with a gentleman in his 60s who has Down’s Syndrome. He also has agoraphobia and an anxiety disorder. His speech can be difficult to understand at first but once you get used to it, you will appreciate that he has a wide vocabulary and can communicate in short sentences. He uses sign language, mainly Makaton, (but be aware that some signs are of his own invention!) and will also use gestures, facial expressions and pointing to things to make himself understood.
He likes to be busy and loves his magazines and puzzle books as well as writing, drawing and taking photos. He is engaging, funny and loving – his outlook on life is to love and to be loved. He is capable of contributing to many tasks around the home but requires carers with patience, who will give him encouragement and enable him to do things in his own time, even if this means the task takes longer.
