Are you committed to providing high quality and aspirational Fostering Services for Leicester City’s children who are Looked After?
The Supervision and Support Team works with Mainstream and Kinship Foster Carers to ensure they are supported, supervised, and trained to care for vulnerable children who are Looked After. Their goal is to ensure Foster Carers meet Fostering National Minimum Standards in caring for children, and ensure permanence through permanent fostering, adoption, and Special Guardianship Orders.
You will be in a team of nine full-time and four part-time Social Workers, all providing supervision and support to foster carers. The Team currently works directly with foster carers in their homes, with options to work remotely and office-based.
This is a 9-month fixed-term post, Mon-Friday, 37 hours per week.
What you’ll be doing
As a Supervising Social Worker in the Support and Supervision Fostering Team, you play a crucial role in ensuring high-quality support and supervision of foster carers and timeliness of Special Guardianship assessments. Children who are Looked After need to be placed in safe and well-supervised foster homes that meet Fostering National Minimum Standards. You’ll continue to develop and remain compliant with new and updated Regulations and Guidance.
Ensuring that all cases are fully compliant with statutory regulations, policy, national minimum standards, and Service standards while maintaining appropriate administrative systems.
You’ll participate in the development of foster carers through regular supervision, making sure they receive appropriate advice, guidance, and training. Where necessary, you will offer challenge and opportunities for foster carers to learn and improve.
Working with a range of colleagues as a team around each child, attending various meetings as required that progress the plan for children and families, for example, LAC Review Meetings, Placement Support Meetings, and local authority designated officer (LADO) Meetings. You will engage in statutory safeguarding procedures to ensure safe and effective care.
What you’ll need
You must be a Level 3 qualified Social Worker and registered with Social Work England. You should have significant experience of working with children looked after, and an appreciation of the complexities this brings. This experience will be underpinned by research and evidence, including trauma-informed practice. You should also have experience of forming and maintaining constructive working relationships with colleagues both within and outside of the Department, with experience of working with diverse groups.
You’ll have experience of prioritising and organising work, setting standards and working to clear objectives, while having an in-depth knowledge of the issues affecting vulnerable children who are looked after and foster carers, including knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, procedures, and national minimum standards.
