This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the new Major Sporting Projects Delivery Directorate to work on the planning for UK and Ireland hosting the men’s UEFA European Championships in 2028 (EURO 2028). The post-holder will play a key role in delivering the largest sporting event that the UK and Ireland have ever jointly hosted. The post-holder will lead UK Government’s work to maximise the impact of hosting EURO 2028 on communities across the country, whilst holding an important leadership position within the Directorate. Key deliverables:
* Overseeing planning and implementation of UK Government’s contributions to the legacy and sustainability plans for EURO 2028, ensuring robust and comprehensive plans are designed, implemented and evaluated;
* Providing visible and effective leadership, leading key strategic relationships with partners, representing UK Government on key governance forums, and influencing the design and delivery of the multi-partner programmes to ensure alignment with UKG priorities and missions;
* Overseeing development of a comprehensive approach to benefits realisation of the UK Government’s tournament objectives and oversee UK Government input into the design of the programme-wide evaluation led by UK Sport;
* Managing the development of a high-performing team;
* Playing an active role in the corporate leadership of the directorate.

Person specification
The ideal candidate would have the following key skills and experience:
Essential requirements:
* Significant experience working across government on major event delivery, and delivering competing priorities at pace.
* Significant experience in the design and implementation of impactful policy interventions, and managing delivery through others.
* Experience working with senior stakeholders, with a track record of advising them on policy and delivery issues by making effective recommendations based on analysis of a range of evidence.
* Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with and build influential relationships internally and externally, and experience of delivering through others.
* A confident, inspiring and empowering leader, who remains calm under pressure.
Desirable skills:
* Experience of working on a major event with the football sector.
* Experience working with the Devolved Administrations and local authorities.
* Project management experience, in particular any formal programme and project management training.
