We are seeking a dynamic and strategic leader for the position of Head of Workplace, Environment & Sustainability to shape and drive the strategy, performance, and continuous development of our workplaces and sites. This role plays a key part in defining the future of our facilities, ensuring optimal safety, sustainability, and operational excellence. As the head of Workplace, Environment & Sustainability, you will oversee all aspects of facilities management, safety, health, and environment (SHE), business continuity, risk management and importantly sustainability strategy. With a strong focus on compliance and customer-centric service delivery, you will work across teams to create an environment that anticipates future needs, fosters collaboration, and enhances the overall employee and customer experience.
In this role, you will lead the way in aligning local strategies with global objectives while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and directives. You will manage high-performing teams to drive continuous improvements and lead projects that enhance site security, infrastructure, and sustainability practices. By maintaining strong communication across stakeholders and providing leadership in all areas of facilities management, SHE, and risk, you will play an instrumental role in fostering an environment that emphasizes safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead all elements of facilities management, SHE, business continuity, and risk management with a strong focus on sustainability.
* Shape and implement the local SHE strategy, ensuring alignment with global Roche goals and regulatory compliance.
* Oversee risk management, security, safety, and business continuity plans.
* Develop and implement local emergency plans and oversee risk assessments.
* Foster a customer-centric environment that anticipates future needs and promotes operational excellence.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives and monitor site performance through external benchmarking.
* Manage and ensure compliance with local and global regulations, including ISO certifications for Environment (14001), Health and Safety (45001), and Business Continuity (22301).
* Lead environmental reporting, waste management, and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
* Plan, manage, and control maintenance and repair activities to ensure high availability of site infrastructure.
* Implement lifecycle asset management, define KPIs, and ensure continuous monitoring of processes.
* Develop and lead high-performing teams, fostering talent management and goal setting.
* Drive collaboration with stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business needs.
* Manage the WES budget and vendor relationships to ensure high-quality services.
* Ensure strong physical, personnel, and information security frameworks are in place.
* Lead security awareness programs across the organization.
* Establish systematic review mechanisms for continuous improvement of site performance.
* Act as an advocate for Roche’s position within industry bodies and governmental organizations.
* Oversee financial and vendor management, ensuring efficient resource utilization.
* Maintain effective working relationships across various organizational functions.
* Innovate and drive improvement in processes and practices, maintaining a customer and employee-centric focus.
* Manage large-scale projects in facilities and SHE areas with a focus on delivering outcomes.
Your Profile:
* A university degree, with an Upper Second-Class degree (or equivalent), preferably in Environmental Management or H&S.
* NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management or H&S is highly preferred.
* Advanced IWFM qualification or similar is desirable.
* Proven experience leading cross-functional teams and driving performance improvements in facilities, SHE, and risk management.
* Strong communication and coordination skills, with experience in managing stakeholder relationships.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix structure and navigate complex business environments.
* Extensive experience in leading high-performing teams and delivering results through effective leadership practices.
* Experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and large projects.
* Solution-oriented, with a proven track record of driving innovation and operational efficiency.
* A strategic thinker with the ability to align local actions with global objectives.
* Familiarity with environmental, health and safety regulations, and risk management frameworks.
* A customer-centric approach, balancing the needs of both internal and external stakeholders.
* Embraces change and innovation, continually looking for opportunities for growth and improvement.
* Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
This position is based at our Burgess Hill (UK) office with flexible onsite working.
