Job Description
The Clerk of Works based in Pangbourne will report to the Engineering Manager. The role involves managing the safety of all works across the site, issuing permits for various disciplines (training will be provided), and providing health and safety guidance to technical, facilities, and project teams.
The candidate is expected to review and comment on RAMs effectively and be able to write Risk Assessments and Method Statements. An excellent understanding of Health and Safety is essential, alongside experience in issuing permits and working in the FM arena. Candidates should be proactive, team-oriented, possess good communication skills, and have a keen desire to learn.
Contracted hours are from 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work required.
Role Summary:
* Work within a small Clerk of Works team.
* Monitor high and low-risk activities on site, liaising with contractors, project managers, engineering, soft services team, and clients.
* Build and issue permits on the electronic system, continually monitoring throughout the day.
* Conduct safety conversations regarding ongoing work on site.
* Have a good understanding of Word, Excel, and other IT programs.
* Add contractors to the site access system (Smartsheet).
* File permits and associated paperwork.
* Undertake specific training as per site BP processes.
* Carry out audits on the site permit system and at other BP sites.
* Review and assess RAMS, providing comments based on current legislation.
* Write RAMS for the engineering team.
* Be confident in stopping works if deemed unsafe.
* Ensure low-risk works have RAMs that are read, understood, and signed.
* Escalate issues to the Engineering Manager.
* Inspect work areas for safe handover at the end of the day.
* Maintain an excellent understanding of Health and Safety legislation (IOSH required, NEBOSH beneficial).
* Engage comfortably with clients, contractors, and senior management.
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and others.
* Exhibit excellent communication skills and a desire to learn.
* Be self-motivated, resourceful, and proactive in managing assigned tasks.
* Be a confident decision-maker.
Experience Required:
* Proficient in IT skills, including MS Office and online portals.
* Understanding of Engineering and Facilities Management.
* Ability to work well within a team and under pressure.
* Excellent attention to detail.
Qualifications/Experience:
* Minimum of 3 years working within the FM industry.
* Preferred previous experience issuing permits and reviewing RAMS.
* IOSH or equivalent Health and Safety training.
* Preferably IPAF, PASMA certified.
