We are seeking permanent, full-time band 5 Occupational Therapists to join our rotation which delivers services from a variety of clinical settings and bases.
To participate in the Band 5 Occupational Therapy rotational scheme, which involves working across Torbay and South Devon Healthcare Trust sites in a range of ward settings, out-patient departments, intermediate care facilities, patients' own homes, and community facilities.
Support and development includes a preceptorship scheme, clinical supervision, and wide access to a range of development opportunities. Working across 7 days will be required.
We welcome applications from newly qualified, more experienced band 5's, or from those due to qualify in the near future.
Main duties of the job
To provide high-quality, safe Occupational Therapy services in the right place, at the right time to support the people of Torbay and South Devon to live their lives, with meaningful occupation and purpose.
This will involve working with individuals to assess their needs and develop plans to support them to achieve their aims, whilst working as part of a multidisciplinary team. As a member of the rotation, you will change your work area every 6 months.
Under the supervision of a Band 6 Occupational Therapist, work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the specified area providing specialist occupational therapy input aimed at achieving maximum independence for all patients in order to meet their occupational needs in a meaningful and purposeful manner. To work in accordance with the professional code of conduct and standards of practice and operational policy for this service.

We also provide Preceptorship, a 12-month multi-disciplinary programme aimed at all newly qualified, newly appointed, and return to practice staff to be completed within the first year of employment at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT).
Our Occupational Therapists have the opportunity to attend and participate in a monthly Band 5 Occupational Therapy forum, offering peer support, updates, and in-house training.

Job responsibilities
* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy or graduating in 2025
* Current HCPC registration
* Experience of working as part of an Occupational Therapy or Multidisciplinary team
* Knowledge of relevant National service frameworks and clinical guidelines
* Evidence of ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team
* Commitment to monthly supervision and to service-wide development working groups as appropriate
* Writing/typing reports
* Ability to impart information concerning diagnosis and poor prognosis of physical recovery to patients and their carers
* Ability to work with patients in settings that could be cramped, cluttered, unsafe, unhygienic, and remote

Qualifications
* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Current HCPC registration
Knowledge and experience
* Experience of working as part of an Occupational Therapy or Multidisciplinary team
* Experience in the core clinical area of OT within an NHS setting to include: Respiratory and cardiac, acute inpatient and care of the elderly, trauma and orthopaedics, community or intermediate care, neurological conditions, social care
* Legal Literacy to include Mental Capacity Act and Care Act 2014
* Knowledge of relevant National service frameworks and clinical guidelines
* Pre or post-graduate experience of the following: Home assessment visits, functional assessments, initial interviews with patients/service users
* Evidence of good interpersonal skills with a wide range of people- ability to demonstrate a range of communication skills
* Evidence of clinical reasoning skills
* Evidence of good written and verbal skills
* Ability to evidence good problem-solving skills
* Post graduate experience in an OT related field
* Previous OT experience working within the NHS as a student or volunteer
* Pre or post-graduate experience working with patients/clients in any of the following clinical/work areas: Stroke rehab, social services, mental health, paediatrics, palliative care
* Experience of health and/or social care IT Systems
* Knowledge of recent developments in OT and health and social care provision
* Experience of following interventions: DFG process, cognitive or perceptual assessments, wheelchair assessments
* Experience or skills for supervision of OT Assistant or Tech 3
