Principal Civil Structural Engineer
We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Principal Civil & Structural Engineer to join a leading multi-disciplinary engineering team working on major infrastructure and highly regulated projects. This role will provide technical leadership and expertise in civil and structural design, supporting the Client's project.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering engineering analysis, calculations, reports, and specifications, while also supporting the lead engineer in ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. This position will require close collaboration with Pipeline & Piping Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, and Process Engineering teams, ensuring seamless integration of designs.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and provide technical direction on civil and structural design activities.
* Produce and review engineering calculations, reports, and design specifications.
* Ensure cost-effective and constructible design layouts that meet project specifications.
* Oversee and guide junior engineers, ensuring quality and consistency in design outputs.
* Collaborate across disciplines to ensure designs align with overall project requirements.
* Conduct optioneering assessments, define scopes of work, and support business development activities.
* Provide input on project estimates, budgets, and resource forecasting.
* Ensure compliance with Process Safety and CDM regulations.
* Support the delivery teams during construction and handover stages, including ad-hoc site visits to Teesside.
* Identify and drive value engineering solutions.
* Adhere to project controls, monitor activities against budget, and manage change effectively.
Key Skills & Experience
* Minimum 15 years of experience in Civil & Structural design, with at least 5 years in the Oil & Gas industry.
* Strong experience working on new and historic structures, seismic design (preferred), and various project stages including Concept, FEED, Detailed Design, Delivery, Commissioning, and Handover.
* Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing and mentoring junior team members.
* Ability to confidently represent the team in front of clients and stakeholders.
* Proficiency in working with the NEC suite of contracts.
* Excellent knowledge of UK building regulations, industry standards, and safety regulations.
* Ability to challenge designs to drive cost efficiencies and safety improvements.
Qualifications
* Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
* Chartered or near-chartered status with a relevant professional institution (ICE, IStructE, etc.).
* Strong understanding of Process Safety and CDM (Construction Design & Management) Regulations.
