Job overview
The department is currently recruiting into a full-time locum consultant, with a view to potential extension or permanent opportunity. This post is a replacement post. It will help to develop the service, particularly the burns, the skin cancer and hand trauma service. However, the post holder will also support additional services as required, depending on the needs of the department and the candidate’s areas of specialist interest and training.
Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register. It is Trust policy that without CCT, an offer as Locum Consultant can be given for a 6 months fixed term contract, with possibility of it being extended for a further 6 months, but cannot go over 12 months in total.
Main duties of the job
A full-time Locum post as Consultant in Plastic Surgery is available at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital with clinical commitments at High Wycombe General Hospital, Amersham Hospital and potentially at the other peripheral hospitals our department serves. This post has a particular focus on skin cancer treatment, including the support of the new skin cancer service at Amersham Hospital.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The key duties and responsibilities are:
* Plastic surgery and burns service responsibilities including on call (1 week in 9.5)
* Outpatient clinics at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Wycombe General Hospital, Amersham Hospital and possibly other peripheral hospitals
* Operating (acute and elective)
* Care of inpatients and outpatients
* Clinical and other administration as required by agreement
* Teaching and training of junior staff and undergraduates (including educational and clinical supervisor role)
* Participation in Clinical Governance
* Departmental role within the team
* Burns non-resident on-call

* Full GMC Registration
* Ability to travel to and between sites
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
* Excellent leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of consultant
* Evidence for surgical and clinical skills in Plastic surgery to undertake a consultant role
* Good personal and interpersonal skills
* Good spoken and written English
* Communication skills should be highly developed.
* Experience of teaching doctors-in-training and undergraduates
* Experience of clinical audit, research & quality improvement projects
* Knowledge of the NHS
* Management and leadership course training course and experience
Experience
* General training in Plastic Surgery
* Extensive years WTE minimum in recognised training post
* Ability to make good decisions at Consultant level
Education, Qualifications & Training
* General training in plastic surgery and burns
* CCT in Plastic Surgery OR Registration on GMC Specialist Register in Plastic surgery. OR within three months of achieving CCT at the time of interview
* Fellowship or comparable training as demonstrated by logbook in skin cancer
* Fellowship in burns management or comparable training as demonstrated by logbook
* Recognised as an educational trainer by the GMC
