PROFESSIONAL DUTIES OF A TEACHER
TEACHERS’ (TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT) REGULATIONS

Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the E-learning strategy of the school.
2. Participate in E-learning meetings as instructed by the Principal.
3. Represent the school as Chair of the E-learning/ICT committee in the absence of the Head of ICT.
4. Respond to requests for ICT support by colleagues in the absence of the ICT technician.
1. Planning
1. Planning and preparing courses and lessons;
2. Teaching according to the educational needs of the pupils assigned;
3. Assessing, recording, and reporting on the development, progress, and attainment of pupils.
2. General Responsibilities
1. Promote the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and of any class or group of pupils assigned;
2. Provide advice and guidance to pupils on educational and social matters;
3. Communicate and consult with the parents of pupils;
4. Participate in meetings related to the curriculum or the administration of the school.
3. Assessment/Reporting
Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports, and references relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils.
4. Staff Development
1. Participate in any scheme of staff development and performance review;
2. Review methods of teaching and programmes of work;
3. Advise and cooperate with the Principal and other teachers on the preparation and development of courses of study.
5. Discipline/Health and Safety
Maintain good order and discipline among pupils and safeguard their health and safety.
6. Public Examinations
Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for public examinations and in assessing pupils for such examinations.
7. Management Activities/Administration
1. Contribute to the selection for appointment and professional development of other teachers;
2. Participate in administrative tasks related to duties described above.
8. Number of Days/Hours of Work
A full-time teacher shall be available for work on 195 days in any year of which not more than 190 days should involve teaching children in a classroom situation.
9. Staff Cover
Supervise and teach any pupils whose teacher is not available.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

1. You must clearly demonstrate on your application form how you meet the required criteria.
2. Shortlisting will be carried out on the basis of the essential criteria.
SECTION 1 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
1. Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
2. Hold a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in Business Studies and ICT.
3. Minimum of 1 year’s demonstrable experience of teaching Business Studies and ICT at Key Stage 3 & 4.
SECTION 2 - ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
1. Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum.
2. Knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice.
SECTION 3 - DESIRABLE CRITERIA
1. Minimum of 1 year’s demonstrable experience of teaching Business Studies & ICT at Key Stage 5.
2. Demonstrable experience of supporting children and young people of all abilities.
DISCLOSURE OF CRIMINAL BACKGROUND
The Education Authority will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background.
