Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to recruit a Consultant in Infectious Diseases. The Directorate provides services across 3 hospital sites within the county of Worcestershire. The candidate will benefit from working within a friendly and experienced team of Community IV nurses, ACP's, Pharmacists.
As a Trust we are actively involved in developing the training program for students from the Three Counties Medical School based in Worcester which opened in September 2023. We look forward to establishing links with the new Medical School in addition to well-established relationships with the University of Birmingham and the University of Warwick.
Applications are invited for a full time (10 PA) Consultant in Infectious Diseases and General Internal Medicine to actively develop and enhance these services within Worcestershire. This is a new, full time post to complement the existing 2 Infectious Diseases consultants in the county.
It is envisaged that the post will provide an excellent opportunity to significantly build on the current service in Infectious Diseases with particular emphasis on providing a lead in the management of infections through our emergency departments and the further development of outpatient parenteral antibiotic services (supported by 2x nurse practitioner). There are well-developed outpatient services for HIV medicine (supported by 3x CNS), hepatitis (supported by 2x CNS), tuberculosis, bone and joint infections and travel medicine.
This post will further facilitate a bacteraemia service and promote antibiotic stewardship on both acute sites (WRH and AH) through close liaison with our microbiologists.
General Internal Medicine for this post is based at WRH with a 1:6 consultant of the week rota on the Infectious Diseases ward.

A suitably experienced post-holder will be expected to provide a clinical service in the relevant specialty to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to General Practitioners.
The post-holder will be expected to provide a service to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitioners and to attend multi-disciplinary meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to work within multi-disciplinary teams in providing high quality clinical care. The Trust is seeking to extend services to GP surgeries/health centres etc and job plans may be revised in due course.
The post-holder will provide support to the A& E department and acute medicine to ensure timely appropriate care and patient flow through the hospital.
The post-holder will provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care.
CESR or European Community Rights
~ Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent
Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in Infectious Diseases
Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service
Ability to manage and lead specialist unit and working parties as appropriate
Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making
Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines
Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates
Ability to supervise postgraduate research
Commitment to Continuing Medical Education
Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local regional or national levels
Able to meet the travel requirements of the job and return to the hospital within 30 minutes when on call
