Siemens Energy has an exciting opportunity to develop and grow a new business function in support of the growing UK offshore renewable and HVDC interconnector market.
With the increase in demand for HVDC technology moving forward, we have decided to establish a dedicated team within the UK to support the delivery of future projects including a full transient network analysis laboratory for functional and dynamic performance testing.
As a HVDC Protection Engineer, you will work within a team of HVDC project management and engineering specialists to design and deliver full HVDC control and protection solutions for both wind farm grid connections and interconnectors, making use of a new transient network analysis laboratory located in Manchester.
You will report to the Engineering Manager – HVDC C&P and will be required to provide engineering work packages in line with project and business objectives.
LET’S TALK ABOUT YOU
Your Responsibilities
1. Preparation of quotations, as well as for the engineering phase, performance and customer acceptance tests. Support during the commissioning phase from Manchester up to handover to the customer.
2. Development of DC protection concepts of self-guided multilevel converters with half-bridge and full-bridge modules for different applications such as symmetrical monopole, bipole, offshore connections or multi-terminal systems.
3. Performance of protection coordination studies of HVDC systems using the simulation tool PSCAD/EMTDC, including determination of DC protection settings and preparation of study report.
4. Programming the software of DC protection and measurement system in MATLAB/SIMULINK and CFC on the SIMATIC TDC multiprocessor automation system and PLUSCONTROL platform.
5. Functional and performance testing: Model-Based-Testing (MBT) in SIMULINK and Hardware in the Loop (HiL) with Real-Time Simulation Systems (RTDS).
6. Customer training and acceptance tests as well as submission of lessons learned for improvement as a central contact person for your project as a protection engineer.
