The Histopathology Department at Poundbury Cancer Institute is moving into new purpose-built premises and is expanding its services. We are recruiting Histopathologists at Consultant, Specialty Doctor and Trainee level to join our team of seven onsite pathologists and numerous remote pathologists. Specialist GMC registration is ideal but if you trained abroad, we can support you in gaining registration and if you want to relocate to the UK we can provide sponsorship. We are an NHS-England designated body for revalidation.
Main duties of the job
The department is UKAS accredited and receives primarily wet specimens. We support NHS hospitals by taking a part or the whole workload from specific tumour sites, including mammary, cutaneous, digestive, respiratory, gynaecological and urological. As a pathologist, you will help provide a comprehensive histopathology reporting service which may include cut-up, reporting, MDT attendance, R&D activities and teachings. Our aim is to modernise histopathology and we believe teamwork is vital to improve quality and provide job satisfaction. We have a team-based approach to the diagnostic work and flexible working conditions and are looking for pathologists who want to work collaboratively within our close-knit team and will fit with the ethos of our organisation.
Dorchester is a beautiful part of the world to live with nature on your doorstep, easy access to the Jurassic coast, a wealth of watersports and yet only 2h:45m from London by train. The laboratory is located in Poundbury, a pleasant experimental urban extension to Dorchester, created from a vision of HRH King Charles. HRH opened our laboratory in 2015.
Salary: full time £100,000-£140,000 (consultant), with an option for a base salary plus performance-based pay; remote work can be discussed. Whether you are a trainee or a consultant, we welcome the chance to talk in person or online. If you are at the ECP in Florence, you can discuss this position with one of the PCI pathologists.
About us
PCI is an independently funded academic and diagnostic centre with established links with the pharmaceutical and diagnostic industry and an international reputation for quality and innovation. We provide molecular pathology and conventional histopathology diagnostic services in almost all subspecialties to the NHS in Great Britain and abroad, as well to private providers. Our success is based on innovative practices: in 2015 we were the first UK Lab to digitalise its entire workload and in 2017 we were the first ISO accredited UK laboratory for primary reporting using digital slides. We promote the integration of diagnostic and molecular histopathology under a single service and remain one of the few labs where pathologists also report molecular tests. We improve patient access to targeted oncological therapies by providing molecular oncology tests with a 24h turnaround time. We have an active programme of teaching and training, with a particular focus on oncology companion diagnostics. We host CADQAScic and its Digital Proficiency Testing Programme for on-slide biomarker interpretation. Our R&D focuses on refining diagnostic classifications using molecular data to provide clinicians with better predictive and prognostic categories and improve patients outcomes. PCI is a recognised centre for the training of scientific staff and, as a pathologist, you will be working closely with the scientists, providing supervision, teaching and leadership.
