Job Description
We are now recruiting on behalf of our client for a Vehicle Mechanic, based in Ilkeston.
You will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and servicing a variety of car models and makes. You will work independently to ensure vehicles are operating safely and efficiently, performing complex repairs, maintenance, and inspections. A strong understanding of vehicle systems and a thorough approach to diagnostics are essential for this role.
Duties:
1. Vehicle Diagnostics:
Perform advanced diagnostics using diagnostic tools and equipment to identify faults in vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, etc.).
Analyse engine performance and repair as necessary.
Use technical manuals and diagnostic software to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
2. Repairs and Maintenance:
Perform routine and emergency repairs on engines, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, and other vehicle components.
Replace or repair worn or damaged parts such as brake pads, exhaust systems, alternators, batteries, and more.
Carry out wheel alignments, tire repairs, and replacements.
3. Customer Interaction and Advice:
Communicate with customers regarding issues, repairs, and maintenance recommendations.
Provide detailed explanations of work carried out and offer advice on future servicing or maintenance needs.
Maintain high customer service standards and ensure satisfaction.
4. Health & Safety Compliance:
Follow health and safety guidelines in the workshop and ensure a safe working environment.
Adhere to legal and environmental standards when disposing of hazardous materials like oils, fluids, and parts.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
What we are looking for:
1. Level 2/3 qualification in Automotive Repair & Maintenance
2. Several years of experience working as a mechanic, with proven skills in diagnostics and repair.
3. Strong technical knowledge of vehicle systems and the ability to use diagnostic tools and software.
4. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
5. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
6. Excellent communication and customer service skills.
7. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
8. A valid driver's license
9. You will provide your own basic tools
What's in it for you:
1. Temporary to permanent role (subject to suitability)
2. Full time role, working Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm with an hour's lunch. Occasional overtime
3. Pay £12- £15 an hour depending on experience
4. Further training will be provided
