Interim Financial Accountant
Morgan Hunt are working with a College in East London who are looking to recruit a Interim Financial Accountant. This is a 10 month contract role paying up to £26 p/hour. This role will be fully office based.
You will support the Deputy Director of Finance in the monthly and annual processes. To maintain the timely reconciliation of all Balance Sheet accounts, including Bank Accounts, taking responsibility for the validation and maintenance of the fixed assets register and tax returns.
Key Responsibilities of the Interim Financial Accountant:
1. Reconcile and Maintain Financial Records: Ensure timely reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, bank accounts, and accurate maintenance of the general ledger, fixed asset register, and tax returns.
2. Capital Grants and Assets Management: Oversee capital grant compliance, recording, and monitoring; manage the fixed asset register, ensuring accurate depreciation postings and periodic physical checks.
3. Audit and Reporting Support: Assist with audits, prepare documentation for balance sheet reconciliations, and provide regular financial reporting, including capital purchase analysis against budget.
4. Tax Compliance and Returns: Handle VAT, Corporation Tax, and other statutory returns, ensuring adherence to all compliance requirements.
5. Technical System Expertise: Maintain and enhance the Open Accounts system; train and support non-financial users on finance processes and systems.
6. Process and Policy Development: Support month-end and year-end closures, enforce internal controls, and act as the finance lead for cross-functional improvement projects.
Previous Skills and Experience of the Interim Financial Accountant:
1. Qualified accountant or equivalent by experience, actively working towards full qualification.
2. Strong understanding of government policy and key issues in post-16 education, and their relevance to the College.
3. Excellent oral and written communication, negotiation, influencing, problem-solving, numerical, and presentation skills.
4. Good IT proficiency with a commitment to developing skills further, alongside a strong understanding of Equality & Diversity and Safeguarding, with practical ideas for implementation.
5. The ideal candidate would have worked within FE / have an Enhanced DBS (candidates without a DBS will need to apply for one if successful in the interview).
