Job Summary A progressive and supportive Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Wandsworth is seeking a dedicated English Teacher to join their team. This role is an exciting opportunity for a passionate teacher to work with students who require additional support, delivering engaging lessons and fostering resilience and confidence in their academic journey. Full-time, permanent position starting January Teach small groups of students with tailored, needs-led approaches Competitive salary with access to specialized training and career development Responsibilities and Duties Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated English lessons to students with diverse needs, including those with behavioural, emotional, and social challenges. Support students in developing literacy skills, boosting their confidence and ability to engage with the curriculum. Create and implement personalized learning plans in collaboration with the SENCo and other staff. Use innovative and creative teaching strategies to engage students and address barriers to learning. Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback and adapting teaching strategies as required. Build positive relationships with students, acting as a mentor and role model to support their personal and academic development. Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team, including teaching assistants, counsellors, and external agencies, to provide holistic support. Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that encourages student participation and growth. Communicate effectively with parents and carers, keeping them informed about progress and collaborating to support student outcomes. Participate in staff training, development sessions, and PRU initiatives to contribute to the school’s mission and vision. Qualifications and Skills Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a proven track record of teaching English, ideally in a PRU, alternative provision, or similar setting. Experience working with students facing barriers to learning, including SEMH (social, emotional, and mental health) needs. Strong understanding of inclusive teaching strategies and behaviour management techniques. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage students and collaborate effectively with colleagues and external professionals. Patience, empathy, and resilience to support students through challenges and inspire them to achieve. Commitment to professional development and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
