We are looking to recruit a pharmacy technician who will enjoy being a senior part of this friendly close-knit pharmacy team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership skills within pharmacy procurement whilst maintaining your general pharmacy technician skills. This is a well-established and valued post, which is constantly evolving to meet the needs of the service. The pharmacy is a close-knit team within an acute specialist surgical hospital. You will work closely with a wide range of staff to ensure a first class pharmacy service.
You must be a GPhC registered pharmacy technician. Previous experience within hospital pharmacy is also essential.
As with other posts in a small department, the post holder’s responsibilities are wide-ranging however time will be given to fulfil expected objectives
You will be responsible for the direct day-to-day management of the pharmacy procurement and distribution services for the Trust, as well as looking at new initiatives and ways of streamlining of existing practices. This includes line management of the staff, prioritisation of work, liaising with a range of people including clinical teams and suppliers plus responsibility for stock control management. You will also be the systems manager for the pharmacy IT system (JAC/Careflow).
You will have to cover some dispensary duties. Currently there are no weekend duties, but you will be expected to be part of the working bank holiday rota. You may also be expected to work some weekends or late nights in the future as part of the drive towards a 7-day service.

As a member of the pharmacy team the post holder shares responsibility for the organisation, management and supply of pharmacy services to patients and healthcare staff for the Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The pharmacy team is the hospital lead for all aspects of medicines management, including the safe and secure handling of medicines, and the clinical and cost-effective use of medicines.

1. Staff management including performance management, development, conducting appraisals, recruitment and selection
2. Responsible for the ordering and invoice processes of medicines
3. Overseeing the distribution services.
4. Co-ordination of pharmaceutical contracts for the Trust and ensuring the IT systems are updated
5. Ensuring product recalls are implemented within specified timeline.
6. Managing and communicating stock shortages.
7. Acting as workplace, practice or educational supervisor for the training and assessment of assigned pharmacy assistant apprentices and internal/ cross-sector pre-registration pharmacy technicians.
8. Act as the systems manager for the pharmacy IT system (Careflow formerly JAC)
9. Covering dispensary duties as required
