Acute Medicine is an essential pillar of urgent care at UHBW. We have ambitious plans to grow the service at Weston General Hospital with the expansion of our Acute Medical Unit, Same Day Emergency Care Unit, and optimising clinical pathways.

Our service is comprised of a 28 bedded Acute Medical Unit (Sandford Ward), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit, Waterside 16 Bedded General Medicine and the Medical Take in Emergency Department. We work closely with colleagues in the Emergency Department, Care of the Elderly, Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Surgical and Trauma & Orthopaedics specialties. We also collaborate with colleagues within Bristol hospitals and are open to cross-site working arrangements.

Main Duties of the Job
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and direction for the multi-professional team in the management of acute medical patients. Responsibilities include leading ward rounds, directing patient management, performing practical procedures, teaching junior medical and other staff, attending multidisciplinary meetings, participating in governance activities, managing and administering the service, and liaising with other professionals as required.

Job Responsibilities
Acute Medicine includes:
1. 28 inpatient bedded Acute Medical Unit on Sandford Ward with clinical leadership provided by two consultants from 09:00-17:00.
2. Same Day Emergency Unit running 7 days a week 08:00 to 22:00 alongside the Emergency Department, with an Acute Medicine Consultant present on weekdays.
3. Waterside, 16 Bedded General Medicine Ward with ward rounds 2-3 times a week.
4. Leadership of the Acute Medical Take with the Acute Medicine consultant leading from 09:00-17:00 on weekdays in the Emergency Department.
5. GIM On-Call element on a 1:11 ratio, on-site from 17:00-19:00 post taking new admissions and non-resident until 08:00.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training (Essential)
* MRCP / FRCP / MBBS (or equivalent)
* Fully registered with the GMC.
* Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Acute or General Medicine or within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
Experience (Essential)
* Experience of leading acute admitting medical team.
* Experience of working with allied professions.
* Experience of audit in acute or general medicine.
* Experience of teaching both post and undergraduate students and professions allied to medicine.
