Analytical Services International Member of the Forensic Access Group, Analytical Services International Ltd (ASI) is a research and service company specialising in the analysis of drugs and biologically active compounds using chromatography, immunoassay, mass spectrometry and spectrophotometry. ASI has an international client base and offers laboratory services in three main areas: forensic toxicology, therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) and pre-clinical/clinical studies. The forensic toxicology provides services for two main sectors: for Coroners and pathologists investigating cause of death, and for the police for Road Traffic Act offences (primarily drink and drug-driving). A variety of biological matrices are tested using systems designed to meet ISO17025 accreditation standards, and in-line with the Forensic Science Regulators Codes of Conduct and Practice. The TDM service provides measurements for drugs used in healthcare and clinical therapies to ensure of correct dosing. Services to clients conducting pre-clinical and clinical studies include method development, validation, and analysis of study samples. Services for these regulatory studies can be conducted under conditions of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). Duties and Responsibilities: General/Administrative; To undertake all duties and responsibilities in accordance with ASI’s policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). To become familiar and comply with ASI's rules on data confidentiality, data protection and security, including adherence to the ASI confidentiality agreement. To become familiar with and comply with local Health and Safety policies/procedures including fire/evacuation procedures. In co-operation with the Company’s Quality Manager, ensure that all work is performed in accordance with the principles of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), ISO 17025 and Forensic Regulator’s Code of Practice as applicable. Failure to comply with this will constitute a serious disciplinary offence. To assist in maintaining adequate stocks of all reagents, chemicals, compressed gasses, consumables, kits, standard solutions etc. To carry out general laboratory housekeeping to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and maintain compliance with Health and Safety requirements. Answer queries (via telephone or e-mail) on behalf of the Company (including general, laboratory and assay-based queries). To carry out general maintenance checks on laboratory equipment to ensure its correct and efficient working. To be responsible for stock-taking so as to ensure uninterrupted availability of general laboratory items including consumables, chemicals, reagents and in-house standards. To be responsible for the placement of orders using recognised suppliers and, from time to time, participate in the search for alternatives. To be responsible for recording the receipt of supplies, samples and specimens delivered to the laboratory. To participate in a cleaning programme to ensure the laboratory and equipment is maintained to a high standard. To carry out housekeeping checks that ensure reagents/solutions and stocks are stored correctly according to their labels and that they do not exceed any assigned expiry dates. To assist with the preparation of invoice information, as may be required. To be responsible for handling incoming mail, franking outgoing mail and preparing packages requiring dispatch by courier. To assist with the generation of facility-based records relating to general equipment and housekeeping activities. This function will be performed in close co-operation with the Quality Manager. To make verbal and written reports to Section Heads, the Facility Director or Study Directors as may be requested. To participate in team meetings and take an active interest in the functions of the laboratory by reference to current literature. To organise couriers for sample collections from clients’ premises and monitor the performance of couriers at all times. Scientific; To book samples into the laboratory’s processing and tracking software with keen attention to detail. To be trained and participate in the measurement drugs and the reporting of drug assay results. To ensure that the Head of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and/or Forensic Toxicology and/or Study Directors are made aware of potential or actual infringements of policies/procedures e.g., by highlighting anomalous results. To ensure the quality of results using internal quality control samples and/or participation in External Quality Assessment (EQA) and proficiency testing schemes. To undertake any other laboratory duties that may, from time to time, be required by the Facility Director or Section Heads. Person Specification: Qualifications; Undergraduate or graduate in a biological or chemistry related subject. Experience/Knowledge; Computer literate with basic word processing, database and spreadsheet programmes. Basic office skills including use of fax and e-mail. Experience of direct customer contact, particularly via telephone. Experience or awareness of the issues related to laboratory working. Essential Skills/Abilities; Organised and methodical approach to work. Proven organisational and administrative skills. Able to follow written and verbal instructions. High level of numeracy, accuracy, and attention to detail. Good command of written and spoken English. Ability to work well within a team. Enthusiastic, energetic, flexible, and eager to learn. Desirable Skills; Confident with basic laboratory duties, working in a regulated environment and analytical instrument operation. Basic knowledge/understanding of chromatographic techniques and mass spectrometry. Use of analytical techniques including pipettes and balances.
