Aboutthe Team
The MacroeconomicsCoordination and Strategy team is a friendly and open team workingacross the Treasury’s Economics Group and the Treasury morebroadly, providing analysis, advice and briefing to Ministers oneconomic developments.
The team prepares regularupdates on the macroeconomy for the Chancellor, presents economicupdates to the PM, organises monthly State of the Economy meetingsfor Treasury staff, and leads on the presentation of thegovernment’s economic narrative in externalfora.
Aboutthe Job
This role is for anEconomic Adviser in the Domestic Macroeconomic Coordination branch.The branch is responsible for bringing together the Treasury’sunderstanding of the current macroeconomic context, to supportpolicymaking. The branch also ensures that key facts on themacroeconomy are communicated across the Treasury and externally ina robust and timely way. We are involved in high profile work,often at the centre of what the department is doing. We workclosely with, and bring together the work of, many teams across theEconomics Group and elsewhere in the Treasury.
Keyaccountabilities include:
1. Contributeto the assessment of the UK economy and near-term outlook, bringingtogether analysis across the group to tell a clear and accessiblestory. Work closely with our Press Office to ensure this story isarticulated to the public.
2. Oversee high-qualityeconomic briefing to be used across HM Treasury for policymakingand communications.
3. Regularly present on theeconomy to a range of stakeholders including Ministers, widergovernment, and Credit Rating Agencies.
4. Leadthe organisation of a 6-weekly meeting for the Chief Economist andofficials across Treasury on the latest on the economy.
5. Help project manage and coordinate theEconomics Group’s input for key events including fiscal events.
6. Manage one economic apprentice, supportingthem to develop their skills and deliver excellent work.

This role would suit someonewho has experience working on the UK economy and talking andpresenting to a range of stakeholders including non-experts. Thecandidate would enjoy working in a cross-cutting team collaboratingwith many colleagues around the department and beyond, often at thecentre of what HM Treasury is working on. While not an analysisfocused role, there will be opportunities for analytical projectswhere core workloadallows.
