The IB is transforming how it does technology delivery through the implementation of a new operating model: the Technology Playbook.
The UX Design department is accountable for developing exceptional customer experience across our digital products that fulfil our business needs. The team are the champion of the needs, preferences, and satisfaction of the users of the IB’s digital platforms, and are passionate about improving business processes to create efficiencies, unlock new technology capabilities and better meet our customer’s needs.
This team centralizes capabilities that have developed differently within each Offices in the IBO, and standardizes and codifies those responsibilities. The Head of UX is the IB’s lead on all topics UX, and in establishing this department.
Key Responsibilities
The core collective responsibilities of the UX Design department are:
1. Understand user behaviors and journeys across the IB’s customer-facing products through extensive research, interviews, and usability testing.
2. Understand the business needs and associated processes related to our digital products and drive improvements to those processes to better meet the needs of the business, technology and our users
3. Design and develop seamless and enjoyable journeys across our digital products, fostering customer loyalty and positive user sentiment.
4. Lead and champion user advocacy throughout the product development lifecycle, integrate user-centric design principles into the product development process, and iterate on designs based on user feedback to achieve continuous alignment with evolving user expectations.
5. Actively monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and learning technology competitors to stay ahead in delivering innovative and competitive user experiences.
6. Contribute to a user-centric culture within the organization through effective communication and collaboration, emphasizing the importance of user satisfaction in achieving the IB’s goals.
The UX Design Department comprises two disciplines:
• UX Designer: Responsible for creating intuitive and engaging digital experiences by conducting user research, crafting wireframes, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet user needs and business goals.
• Business Process and Customer Journey Mapping: Responsible for analyzing and visualizing the end-to-end journey of customers, identifying pain points and opportunities for improvement. They collaborate with stakeholders to map business processes, streamline operations, and enhance customer satisfaction through effective process design.
Together, these two disciplines provide the expertise required to develop exceptional end-to-end customer experiences across our digital products that fulfil our business needs and leverage the opportunities of technology.
Other key responsibilities include:
• Decision-making authority over a specific department or function within the department. Responsible for setting departmental goals, developing strategies, and making operational decisions to achieve those goals.
• Enduring a Degree of guidance: Will receive guidance / direction from line manager but they also provide guidance and direction to their own teams.
• Resolve complex challenges related to managing their department or function effectively. This may include optimizing processes, allocating resources, and addressing performance issues within the department.
About You
• Seasoned Extensive proven experience, including demonstrated team leadership position.
• Experience in Collaborating with diverse teams, including Product managers, software developers, instructional designers, educators, and administrators.
• Experience building and managing a team of product managers to deliver high-quality products that align with the company's vision and objectives.
• Experience developing and managing a Departmental budget
• Understanding of the K-12 education sector globally and the role and market for curriculum’s like the IB
• Knowledge of trends, technologies, and emerging innovations in educational technology.
• Basic understanding of software development processes, methodologies, and technologies.
• Proficiency in Agile project management practices, with focus on Scrum to facilitate product development cycles.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas, influence, and collaborate with cross-functional teams, and engage with stakeholders.
• Ability to understand the needs and perspectives of internal stakeholders and external users

About the application process
The interview process is structured to be comprehensive and will involve three stages. The initial rounds will assess the candidate's qualifications and fit for the role, leading up to a final interview with the Director of Digital Transformation. Candidates should prepare thoroughly for each stage to advance in the selection process.
