We are delighted to be supporting our client, White River Trading (WRT), to recruit a general assistant who will be responsible for working as part of a team to serve customers in their shop and cafe, clean and maintain the kitchen, and managing products and goods. This is an exciting role which is based in the beautiful village of Tomatin, less than 20 minutes from Inverness and Aviemore. This is more than a 9 – 5 position and flexibility will be required, including working weekends and occasional evenings. About the role You will be responsible for a wide range of tasks in a quaint rural café from greeting and seating customers through to displaying products and cash handling. Maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety is essential. Training and development opportunities will be provided. You will be responsible for: Waiter/Waitressing: Seating customers. Taking customer orders. Serving and clearing tables. Taking payment at the till and at customer’s table. Cash handling. Shop Assistant: Ensuring customers are served at the tills in a positive, friendly manner. Maintaining a detailed knowledge of the products. Dealing with any customer complaints, escalating to the manager if required. Making effective use of visual merchandising to make products more appealing to customers. Ensuring the shelves, fridges and produce are fully always stocked. Maintaining the stock rotation system, always pulling the oldest products to the front, discounting products a couple of days before their expiry date and removing stock from the shelves the evening the date expires. Keeping all products priced correctly, ensuring any price changes are updated immediately on the shelves and on our till system. Ensuring incoming stock is checked for the correct quantities / best-before dates and damages. Any delivery errors must be reported to the relevant suppliers on the day of arrival. Being part of a team and help ensure the smooth and effective running of the shop. Kitchen Porter: Efficiently carrying out basic cleaning tasks. Collecting and washing pots and pans. Cleaning crockery and cutlery and ensuring food preparation sites are clean and ready. Unloading equipment and food from deliveries. Ensuring storeroom remains organised. Sweeping and mopping floors.
