Job Description
Watershed is a solicitors’ practice with commercially minded employment lawyers and human resources (HR) professionals. Based in Manchester, but with national clients, it is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
Our exceptional team of employment lawyers is looking for someone to who is passionate about employee relations, to help our clients get the best from their people. We need someone with a legal or HR background, and extensive experience of advising businesses on employment law and employee relations.
As a member of the Watershed team, you will advise and support on a wide range of routine and complex matters, that can be contentious or non-contentious, covering all aspects of employment law and employee relations including:
* advising on obligations under the Equality Act 2010
* long term sickness cases, including reasonable adjustments
* conduct and disciplinary cases
* conducting grievances and appeals
* managing absence
* redundancy and Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) transfers
* settlement agreements.

Key responsibilities
* Advising clients on employment law and HR, to add skills and confidence to their team that allow them concentrate on running their business
* Working on and managing a range of clients' projects and dealing with their day-to-day employment matters.
* Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of modern working practices, while understanding the pressures busy managers experience
* Reviewing and assisting with drafting documentation, including settlement agreements, policies and procedures, letters, tribunal bundles, and guidance documents
* Liaising with and supporting other members of the team
Key skills and qualifications
* 5+ years of experience in employment law and/or employee relations, advising and supporting businesses.
* Solid technical competence and knowledge of employment law and employee relations.
* The confidence to credibly advise senior managers within large organisations.
* An ability to offer commercially minded service, as well as operationally aware legal advice.
* Strong problem solving skills, to ensure that solutions comply with the law, meet business needs, promote effective management and enhance employee relations.
* Strong communication skills to build rapport with clients.
* Organisational skills to manage your own caseload.
* The right to work in the UK and a full driving licence.
This position involves occasional travel to client sites throughout the UK when required, and otherwise is predominately office-based in Manchester.
