We are recruiting on behalf of our client, Less Common Metals. They have an exciting opportunity for a Quality, Environment and Laboratory Manager to join the team based in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire on a full-time, permanent basis, with a competitive salary of £48,000-£53,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Less Common Metals are a long established manufacturer that is now at the forefront of decarbonising our planet. Their products are sold around the world to enable green energy production and mobility. Substantial growth is therefore anticipated in coming years and the financial controller will be part of the leadership team at this very exciting time. Purpose: To develop, sustain and support effective Quality and Environmental systems at LCM through the management of existing procedures, the management of the in-house analytical laboratory and the introduction of additional activities to maintain effective ISO standards as agreed by the management team. To manage all the company’s statutory environmental obligations (in particular those under EU REACH and Environmental Permitting Regulations) to ensure the company maintains compliance and prepares for future statutory requirements. Principal Accountabilities: To represent and provide accountability for the quality, environmental and laboratory functions on the LCM Management Team. To maintain and improve an effective and auditable Quality & Environmental Management System (QEMS), appropriate for the business needs of LCM and meeting the requirements of ISO14001 and ISO9001. To line manage and mentor the Junior Process Engineer to provide effective support for the on-going maintenance and improvement of LCM’s externally accredited Quality & Environmental Management System. To manage the in-house analytical laboratory and its staff to ensure the laboratory fulfills its quality control function for the production of all LCM metal alloys. Identify and progress programmes for continual improvement within the laboratory and ensure the level of service provided by the laboratory fully meets the requirements of the LCM business Keep up to date with, interpret and understand relevant laws and regulations to ensure that LCM fulfils all legislative requirements with respect to environmental matters. To manage matters related to UK and EU REACH in order that the business is correctly positioned to comply with relevant legislation as it is introduced. To provide and maintain a comprehensive Quality & Environmental Management System in accordance with the current ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards, to support the business plan of LCM and assure all customers of the quality of the goods supplied. To promote and encourage best practice in all matters relating to environmental and quality issues arising on the LCM site. Work alongside the Management Team to ensure these principles are applied at every level in the business and guide the performance of the business. To develop a culture of appreciation and support for LCM Environmental and Quality policies through effective communication at all levels, use of visual aids, seminars, training and direct involvement with staff as appropriate. Educate all employees on compliance with relevant regulations and the impact on the organisation if these are not complied with. To ensure that all non-conformances arising within the QEMS are recorded, investigated for root cause(s) and that agreed corrective and preventative measures are implemented and monitored for effectiveness. Implement, train and manage an internal audit team to conduct regular internal audits of the quality, environmental and laboratory management systems. To develop and maintain records, data and KPIs pertaining to quality and environmental matters on site. Submit returns to statutory and other bodies as required. To extend LCM’s philosophy relating to environmental and quality standards and ethical business practices along the supply chain, in particular to ensure all suppliers to LCM operate to acceptable international standards as an absolute minimum. Review marketing materials, presentations and the company website to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accurately represent the company’s quality and environmental standards. To undertake such traveling as is reasonably requested by the company Qualifications, Competencies & Experience Essential: Professional qualifications and a good level of expertise in environmental and/or quality management within a commercial environment. Experience and/or qualifications in the management and internal auditing of ISO 9001 and/or ISO 14001 accredited management systems. Experience of staff management. Good working knowledge of current environmental legislation and its application to businesses. Excellent competency and a good level of experience in the manipulation and recording of quantitative data, using spreadsheets, setting and tracking quality and environmental KPIs. Ability to interpret legal, scientific and technical information. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Good organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Desirable: Degree in a relevant subject. Experience within a manufacturing environment and root cause analysis of non-conforming product. Knowledge of compliance with the UK Environmental Permitting regime and UK/EU REACH. Experience of managing an analytical laboratory and/or ISO 17025 implementation. Experience of completing statutory and other environmental returns. Experience of letting contracts to, and managing, external consultants. Knowledge of ESG issues. No Recruitment Agencies please
