Main duties of the job
Applications are invited for a Consultant Diagnostic Neuroradiologist (DNR) to join our friendly and forward-thinking team and contribute to the activity of our busy department. You will have the opportunity to enhance a subspecialty interest, and to progress your career at one of the largest acute teaching trusts in the country, with opportunities to participate in research, education and radiological innovation.
The 10 PA posts cover all aspects of diagnostic neuroradiology. Subspecialist areas of interest that would particularly complement those of the existing team are adult neuro-oncology, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, neurodegeneration, paediatrics, pituitary, spine.
The Wessex Neurological Centre at Southampton General Hospital is the regional neuroscience unit, providing a dedicated, integrated, 24 hour acute neurosurgical and neurological assessment, investigation and treatment service to adults and children. University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS NHSFT) also has a designated Level 1 Trauma Centre, a Comprehensive Stroke Centre with provision of a 7-day mechanical thrombectomy service, and a regional head and neck unit. Stereotactic radiosurgery is provided within the large Oncology unit.

Job responsibilities
The appointed Consultant Diagnostic Neuroradiologist (DNR) will:
* Contribute to provision of a high quality, consultant-led diagnostic neuroradiology imaging service.
* Share in the 24/7 cover of the service, including on call on a rota basis (intended to be 1 in 7 with prospective cover)
* Develop specialist skills to work with multidisciplinary teams and support regional tertiary services.
* Along with their consultant colleagues, provide clinical supervision and professional management of radiology trainees.
Some duties may be provided by offsite working.

* Full GMC Registration
* Completed general training in Radiology and Diagnostic Neuroradiology at specialist level in a recognised centre
* Experience and skills in a subspecialist area of neuroradiology and willingness to develop these aspects further
* Ability to work within multidisciplinary healthcare teams
* Enthusiasm for teaching and training
* Understanding of and willingness to participate in clinical governance and audit activities
* An appropriate level of leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal abilities to be effective in the role of consultant diagnostic neuroradiologist in a large teaching hospital

Person Specification
Qualifications and training
* Primary medical degree
* FRCR or equivalent
* Full registration with the General Medical Council with a valid license to practice
* MRCP or MRCS
* ECNR
* Publications in Neuroradiological Journals
* Inclusion on the Specialist Register / Admission to the Register within 6 months of interview
Previous or relevant experience
* Completed general training in Radiology, and training in Diagnostic Neuroradiology at specialist level in a recognised centre
* Experience in advanced imaging techniques related to Neuroradiology
* Experience in Fluoro-guided LP and myelography
* Experience with spinal injections
Aptitudes and skills
* Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English).
* Appropriate level of organisational, leadership, professional and personal abilities to function effectively as a consultant neuroradiologist
* Experience of teaching juniors, medical students and other healthcare professionals
* Proven ability to build and maintain effective teams
* Empathetic and sensitive to patients needs
* Experience and willingness to undertake audit and clinical governance activities
* Teaching skills: Experience in organising computer-based meetings, teaching and e-learning
* Research Skills: Publication of research articles, demonstrating understanding of research methodology and commitments
