Hours: 08:30 - 15:30 Location: Whitefield (M45) Start Date: ASAP The School Monarch Education, on behalf of our client school, is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant (Level 1) to join a team of professionals. The pupils are aged 11 to 19 years and have a diverse range of learning disabilities (PMLD, SLD, MLD, SEMH), combined with medical conditions, physical disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment, and/or autism. Successful candidates may be asked to work on the school or college site, in one of five pathways (Thrive, Explore, Inspire, Specialist Provision, or Nurture), either on a 1:1 basis or as part of a class. The role is both physically and emotionally demanding, involving work with some pupils who display challenging behaviour. You will be part of an excellent team and will receive extensive support to develop your potential both in this role and beyond. Responsibilities: Attend to pupils' personal needs and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid, and welfare matters. Establish good working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and responding appropriately to individual needs. Promote inclusion and acceptance of all pupils. Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher. Prepare the classroom for lessons and assist in clearing up afterwards. Be aware of pupil progress, problems, and achievements and report them to the teacher as agreed. Support the teacher in managing pupil behaviour, reporting difficulties as appropriate. Assist pupils with local and national learning strategies (e.g. literacy, numeracy, early years) as directed by the teacher. Contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of the school. Assist with the supervision of pupils outside of directed lesson time, including before and after school, if appropriate and within working hours. Requirements: Applicants should be able to demonstrate how they meet the following desirable criteria: Experience of supporting young people with special educational needs and learning difficulties, preferably within an SEN school setting. Experience of supporting young people to overcome barriers to personal, social, or learning development from a pastoral perspective. A nurturing and empathetic approach to behaviour management. The physical and emotional resilience to support pupils with SEN and SEMH difficulties, understanding that all behaviour is a form of communication. Experience of supporting teaching and learning activities for students and providing support for the class teacher in the preparation and organisation of day-to-day lessons.
