Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Murphy is currently recruiting a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our award–winning team known for its extensive in–house expertise and continual drive to innovate within the industry. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will report into a Principal Engineer or the Senior Engineering Manager supporting a portfolio of energy transition design projects. The candidate shall manage the delivery of safe, practical, and economic designs for internal and external clients to a high standard of professional competence, in compliance with Company procedures, recognised standards and current legislation.
Murphy Applied Engineering is an in–house multidisciplinary engineering consultancy, implementing the 'Better Engineered' judicious driver to achieve smart, safe, and constructible solutions, covering the full range of energy sectors including natural gas, CO2, hydrogen and power transmission. The design team provides design consultancy services on both internal and external clients throughout the design lifecycle.
What you will be doing
* Represent the MAE Energy Team (Gas, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture), when necessary, at internal and external meetings.
* Review Scopes of Works provided by Clients (both internal and external) at Tender stage, managing and developing the returned Tender submission within the specified time constraints. This includes developing cost resource estimates, execution plans and project programmes.
* Produce output for the internal design team and interface with external design houses for several Scopes of Works at any given time within a confirmed fixed cost and programme.
* Carry out the review and/or approval of all design documentation for a given Scope of Work, prior to formal Client issue.
* Deliver mechanical design deliverables at differing engineering stages including: Feasibility, FEED, detailed design, construction support and advice.
* Ensure the successful delivery of a quality Mechanical Design Package.
* Liaise with other departments and project teams within the company with respect to design requirements.
* Undertake site visits when appropriate.
* Participate in and manage the successful delivery of all Formal Process Safety Assessments, including, but not limited to: HAZID, HAZOP, Safe Working Design Studies, Site Layout, SIL Determination.
Who we are looking for:
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering.
* Chartered Engineer with the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (or similar) or working towards chartership.
* Experience in the Oil & Gas sector and familiarisation with the IGEM Suite of standards for Gas Pipeline and Installations as well as other National and International Pipeline codes.
* Experience interfacing with Clients such as National Gas Transmission and Cadent and knowledge of their Specifications and Standards including the G/17 and G/35 design assurance process.
* Good technical report writing skills suitable for submission to stakeholders.
* Feasibility, conceptual and detailed design experience associated with the development of all aspects of Natural Gas Above Ground Installations and Pipelines.
