Risk Assessment: This post involves daily use of display screen equipment for prolonged periods. This post may involve manual handling. This post may deal with emotional circumstances involving distressed individuals, patients/carers, clients, relatives, friends, and vulnerable groups. This post may deal with situations of potential confrontation with verbally aggressive and emotive/distressed patients, relatives, or carers. Travelling between Trust sites.
Job Purpose: To support staff in implementing continuous improvement projects in order that national, regional, and local guidance around Cancer Services is delivered. To work collaboratively with clinical and operational teams to ensure all cancer care is patient-focused and evidence-based in all aspects of development and delivery and that relevant changes are embedded in practice. The post holder will share specialist knowledge of cancer in order to support and assist staff working within the specialty and to contribute to relevant forums.
Key Duties:
Education:
1. To design, co-ordinate and deliver Cancer education and training for clinical staff dependent upon need.
2. To lead on and implement the ACCEND programme.
3. Support clinical teams in the implementation of change around cancer service delivery.
4. To be actively involved in engagement with Macmillan Cancer Support, including development of partnership applications, organising an educational programme for Macmillan professionals and ensuring that regular conference calls/meetings take place with the Macmillan Partnership team.
Project work:
1. To lead, co-ordinate and implement projects and agreed service changes as identified by national and local policy and to ensure these are embedded into practice.
2. To carry a personal responsibility to plan time to ensure allocated tasks are completed within agreed timescales and within budgetary constraints.
3. To ensure development of productive relationships with key stakeholders at all levels focusing on effective clinical and operational engagement.
4. To ensure that there is continuous communication with all stakeholders, organise meetings, present written reports.
5. To ensure that necessary governance arrangements are in place in order to minimise any risk in relation to service improvement or projects.
6. To build relationships with strategic, clinical and operational teams within the Trust to embed strategy for cancer services.
7. To be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of projects which improve cancer services patient care and enhance service development.
Departmental Support:
1. To provide cover when necessary for the Cancer Quality Assurance Manager.
2. To provide cancer knowledge and expertise as part of the review panel for internal validations and external as appropriate.
3. To work with Living With and Beyond Cancer (LWBC) team in planning and delivering survivorship and self-management initiatives.
4. To support the team in developing and implementing pathways for cancer patients to enable robust stratified follow up.
5. To provide clinical nursing knowledge and support LWBC team in developing a standardised approach across the organisation and across the patients pathway which include HNA, Care Planning, Treatment Summaries, Cancer Care Reviews and Wellbeing Events.
Leadership:
1. To act as the Governance Lead for Cancer Services.
2. Support and facilitate working relationships with clinical and operational teams.
3. To actively contribute to Cancer Board and other strategic and operational meetings.
4. Support Cancer Services team in achieving set objectives.
5. Attend national, regional and local meetings as a representative of Cancer Services at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
6. To be responsible for and influence nursing policy development within Cancer Services.
7. To provide expert and professional nursing leadership, in collaboration with clinical colleagues, to develop and maintain a multi-professional service within the organisation in delivering cancer services.
8. To provide specialist nursing knowledge and expertise in order to influence clinical practice in cancer services.
9. To contribute at a local, regional and national level in cancer services redesign.
10. To provide strategic leadership and nursing skills via collaborative working with Primary and Secondary care, voluntary and charitable organisations, in order to improve the quality of cancer care provision across the patients pathway.
11. To keep up to date with national, regional and local policies, guidelines, strategies and campaigns and disseminate information to clinical and operational teams.
Management:
1. To deputise, as appropriate, for the Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse in their absence.
2. To investigate relevant clinical incidents raised on the Datix system and provide relevant reports, as necessary.
3. To ensure robust communication with the Executive Team in relation to governance and risk.
4. To actively participate in recruitment and HR issues for the Cancer Services team.
5. To demonstrate a commitment to the delivery of high-quality services and cancer care.
6. To support the implementation of national, regional and local strategic objectives through networking and innovation.
7. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
8. The post holder will be required to work across the Trust on all three sites and will also be required to travel to attend meetings and educational events off site.
