Lecturer in Brickwork Part-Time

REPORTING TO: Curriculum Team Manager Carpentry and Joinery & Trowel Trades
SUMMARY OF POST:
You will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons in construction - bricklaying.
Responsibilities:
1. Lesson Delivery & Student Engagement:
Plan and deliver engaging lessons in bricklaying, ensuring that students receive a comprehensive understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of the trade. Use a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles, ensuring students are actively engaged and can demonstrate their understanding.
2. Assessment & Feedback:
Regularly assess students' work in line with awarding body standards. Provide constructive, written feedback that supports student development and helps them improve their skills and knowledge. Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievements.
3. Practical Demonstrations & Student Interaction:
Provide clear, hands-on demonstrations of bricklaying techniques to reinforce theoretical learning. Lead Q&A sessions during practical work to ensure students fully understand the processes, materials, and safety practices involved. Encourage a collaborative learning environment where students can share experiences and learn from each other.
4. Health & Safety Enforcement:
Enforce a strict three-point Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policy to ensure students adhere to health and safety guidelines during practical lessons. Monitor students' compliance with safety regulations, maintaining a safe and secure learning environment. Promote safe working practices at all times, ensuring students understand the importance of health and safety in the workplace.
PERSON SPECIFICATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A minimum of five years of industrial experience in brickwork, demonstrating a deep understanding of the trade.
2. Possess an NVQ Level 2 or higher qualification in brickwork, showcasing your expertise in the field.
3. A teaching qualification, such as a PGCE or Cert Ed, would be preferred, but not essential.
4. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with students and colleagues.
5. Proficiency in IT skills, enabling you to enhance the learning experience through the use of technology.
6. Up to date DBS.
7. A minimum of two references.
