An Engineering Manager is needed to manage and implement the engineering works on a busy ferry service on the South Coast. The Engineering Manager will have minimum degree level of qualification in Marine Engineering or relevant discipline, as well as have strong knowledge and previous experience in the field. In addition, the Engineering Manager will need to have a UK driving licence, experience with contract law, and have a range of skills such as people management, financial management, strategic planning, project management, communication and IT skills. Applications from ex-military personnel are strongly encouraged Key Responsibilities: Manage, direct and implement the engineering, maintenance construction or improvement works to deliver the organisation’s mission statement Effective recruitment, management and training of technical staff Monitor engineering standards and implement improvements Monitor KPIs in respect of ferry availability and any impact on availability due to maintenance and repairs Maintain the vessels in class with classification society and meet all legislative and regulatory requirements Maintain and develop accurate records Complete reports as required by external agencies and internal procedures Preparation of tender documents Set annual budget forecasts control and monitor annual spending for planned engineering and maintenance Manage the procurement of contractors and suppliers for engineering and maintenance services Manage and direct organisational procedures Undertake all aspects of line management Effective facilities management of the site Assist in the development and implementation of organisational change and support programmes Deputise for the General Manager where appropriate and as required Knowledge, skills and qualifications: Essential: Degree level qualification in Marine Engineering or other relevant discipline Previous experience in marine engineering or similar working environment Have advanced theoretical knowledge of maintenance and inspections Strong experience working within a legislative, regulatory and classifications, particularly with respect of the MCA and Lloyds register Have in depth knowledge of marine engineering processes including contract law and specifications UK driving licence Strong people management, financial management, strategic planning, project management, communication, time management, and IT skills Able to problem solve, build effective teams, and write detailed technical documents, contracts and tender submissions Experience with procurement, accomplishing KPIs, and health and safety issues Be fine to undergo drugs and alcohol testing, work some out of hours for emergencies, and work at height and confined spaces Requirement to have training for or be prepared to work towards: First aid at work, LOLER, PUWER, Working at Height, CONSAR Desirables: Engineering management experience of a ferry service or a similar environment Associate membership of relevant professional body Level 4 business qualification for example DMS H&S qualification e.g. NEBOSH General or equivalent Salary: £56,000 to £60,000 DOE Benefits: Pension scheme, travel card, Employee Assistance Program, training and development
