Our UKAS-accredited Microbiology Department processes over half a million samples annually, covering Bacteriology, Parasitology, Mycology, Serology, and a specialist Diagnostic Molecular Testing Suite.
This position requires participation in a 24/7 shift system, including night shifts, to ensure continuous service delivery.
To be eligible, you must be HCPC registered (or in the process of registration) as a Biomedical Scientist, with experience in a routine Microbiology Laboratory. Proficiency in UKAS standards, excellent computer literacy, and a keen attention to detail are essential. Main duties of the job
* Contribute to the efficient operation of a busy routine Microbiology Laboratory, including Bacteriology, Parasitology, Mycology, Serology, and Molecular Diagnostics.
* Ensure all laboratory work is carried out to the highest standards, in compliance with UKAS accreditation.
* Participate in regular appraisals, setting personal objectives aligned with the Department's business plan.
* Provide support and training to Band 5 BMS, Associate Practitioners (AP), Assistant Technical Officers (ATO), and Trainee BMS staff as required.
* Liaise with maintenance engineers regarding on-site work to ensure smooth laboratory operations.

Essential
* Accredited BSc honours degree in biomedical sciences or equivalent
* HCPC registration
Desirable
* Evidence of progress towards the Specialist Portfolio in Microbiology
* Evidence of training/qualification in other areas related to Laboratory work e.g. Health and Safety
Experience
Essential
* Experience in a Clinical Pathology Laboratory at a minimum of BMS Trainee level.
Desirable
* To have some experience of audit.
* Experience of operating Serology Elisa analysers.
* Experience of operating molecular analysers and extraction protocols

* Good standards of written communication
