The Grammar School is a leading co-educational school located in the heart of historic Portsmouth.
The Role
They welcome applications from candidates who can support external exams in the summer term 2025 and hope that successful candidates will be willing to join their team of regular invigilators who are available to return throughout the year to support both internal and external exams on an ad hoc basis. Their invigilators conduct external exams in the presence of candidates, ensuring that the integrity of the process is upheld in accordance with the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) guidelines.
Their regular invigilators support examinations at key times throughout the year, which are typically across May and June for external exams at GCSE/IGCSE and A Level, October and November for external exam re-sits, and January for internal mock exams. For the summer exams, invigilators should be available for at least 3 days each week during May and June 2025. It is a requirement of employment that invigilators are available to attend an annual meeting and training session which will take place on Wednesday 26th March 2025.
Previous experience of invigilation is not required as training in the role and duties will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
1. To assist in splitting and distributing papers for satellite rooms in advance of exams
2. To assist/be responsible for laying out papers in the exam venues
3. To help organise candidates at the start and end of exams
4. To be vigilant during exams
5. To ensure the appropriate conduct of exams
6. To ensure the safeguarding of pupils
Skills and Qualifications
1. A good standard of spoken and written English (essential)
2. Basic IT skills
3. Confidence and ability to communicate with staff and students
4. Accuracy and good attention to detail
5. Reliable, flexible and readily available during exam periods
6. Willingness to uphold exam security and confidentiality at all times
7. Willingness to undertake all necessary safeguarding and other training
