Job Overview
To provide advice, assistance and support to young people. To attend to their practical, physical and emotional needs. To act as an appropriate role model and to work closely with them to enable them to address their difficulties and achieve their optimum potential.
Duties
* Ensure children are provided with advice and support in line with their placement plans, organisational policies, and the good practice requirements of the home.
* To maintain a high quality of care and support which meets the physical, emotional, intellectual, social and cultural needs of children and young people within Leighview accommodation. Working from the guidelines from the Children’s Act, National Minimum Standards, Every Child Matters and any other relevant legislation.
* To provide a caring, supportive and nurturing environment in which children/young people can feel secure and free from harm.
* Establishing positive relationships with young people and always offering them unconditional and positive regard.
* Attending to practical matters in relation to childcare (cooking, cleaning, general maintenance around the home, etc)
* Establishing relationships which young people perceive to be positive, warm and rewarding.
* Attending young people’s meetings and contributing to them
Skills
* Understanding of the requirements of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Children’s Homes Quality Standards
* Understanding of child protection and safeguarding and the reporting process
* Understanding of the requirements of care planning and support
* Understanding of confidentiality and data protection
* Ability to manage organisational deadlines and reporting requirements
* Ability to be assertive and confident in managing children and young people
* Ability to deal with external agencies and external reporting structures
* Resilience to address workplace issues and maintain continuity of care
* Experience in managing children who present behaviour that may challenge
* Experience in care planning for children with complex needs
* Effective oral and written communication skills
