QA Supervisor / Coordinator - Oldham
Park Cakes is a c£250 million business which supplies cake and desserts to service the own brands of major retailers, with three sites based in the North West at Heywood, Oldham, and Bolton.
Our products include high-end celebration cake products, slab cakes, and mainstream desserts, primarily supplying Marks & Spencer's along with other major retailers.
This is a new role, and as the QA Coordinator, you will lead a team of 10+ direct reports across 3 shifts, ensuring compliance with industry standards, customer codes of practice, and internal requirements. You will serve as a key point of contact for quality and food safety issues during shifts and handovers, working collaboratively across departments to drive a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
Example Job Accountabilities:
1. Responsible for ensuring that all Food Safety due diligence controls are in place, understood (training), followed, completed/recorded, and stored correctly.
2. Control and maintain all other QA documents to ensure they are stored correctly when completed.
3. Ensure the QA Auditors are fully trained and capable of carrying out their expected duties.
4. Ensure that all team members have an annual PDR (Performance Development Review) and PDP (Personal Development Plan) in place.
5. Communicate relevant information to ensure the team works as one cohesive unit.
6. Proactively represent the Department and collaborate with other teams.
7. Assist the Technical Site Manager and Technical Director with various projects, contributing to the Technical function as a whole.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
1. Ensure new starters have clear development plans with timescales and that training matrices are up to date and completed.
2. Manage holiday cover, absenteeism, and return-to-work processes.
3. Train and mentor direct reports on procedures, ensuring all training records are maintained and up to date.
4. Oversee the team's workload and manage deadlines effectively.
Standards and Compliance
1. Support QA and Operations teams to ensure compliance with factory procedures and customer policies.
2. Act as a point of contact for quality and food safety concerns during shifts.
3. Participate in auditing processes, including QMS, GMP, fabrication, and CCP audits.
4. Manage the site's probes and scales calibration schedule, ensuring timely completion.
5. Assist Technical Managers with handling holds, concessions, rejections, and incidents, keeping logs up to date daily.
6. Ensure all QP030's engineering sign-back forms are completed per shift.
7. Ensure site swabbing plans and testing protocols are completed on schedule.
8. Monitor and report on technical KPIs.
9. Manage and delegate QAS documents and line standards across the team, ensuring all QA's can competently complete this task.
10. Manage sample requests across the business.
Customer and Audit Engagement
1. Support and participate in customer visits and technical audits, ensuring successful outcomes.
2. Assist with day-to-day BRC and retailer audit management, ensuring timely and effective resolution of non-conformances.
Ideal Candidate Profile: Skills & Qualifications
1. A minimum of 3 years' experience in quality within the food industry, ideally in a supervisory position, providing training and managing larger teams.
2. Degree or relevant qualification in Food.
3. Knowledge or experience in HACCP and GMP.
4. Computer experience with MS Office and other online software.
5. SAP experience preferred.
6. Excellent communication skills.
Hours:
39 hours per week, Monday-Friday approximately 8am-4:30pm, with some flexibility to ensure all QA's across 3 shifts are supported. Occasional weekend work or extended hours may be required to meet business needs. This role is site-based and does not facilitate home working.
Package:
Salary up to £34,000 per annum plus benefits including 25 days holiday a year and 8 statutory holidays, a money purchase pension scheme with statutory contribution of salary, and a discount scheme operating across several online and high street retailers.
