Are you unemployed with a disability or a long-term health issue? Would you like a six month paid placement with Dumfries and Galloway Council?
Placement Plus is for people with disabilities or a long-term health issue (a health problem which affects someone’s day to day life and will last more than one year) living within Dumfries and Galloway. It is a six-month paid work placement with Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Placements are available in areas including working with people, working outside, and with tools. These will be supported by Council departments, including Roads, Organisational Development, Facilities, and Administration.
Please note these placements have restrictions – applicants must:
1. live in Dumfries and Galloway
2. have a disability or a long-term health issue (a health problem which affects someone’s day to day life and will last more than one year) to be accepted for a placement.
These positions are funded to address the disability employment gap in Dumfries and Galloway. If you do not meet both of these essential criteria, please contact ESS@dumgal.gov.uk to discuss other opportunities of employment or training.
On your placement, you will be part of a team and carry out real tasks. You will be given training to do the job. To help you, you will be assigned an Employment Key Worker who will assist you with your application, interview, and during your placement. They will also help you obtain clothes for your placement and provide assistance with transportation in the first weeks if needed.
To find out more, join us at our events where you can speak to departments and learn more about the opportunities. These will take place:
• Stranraer 7th October 10.00 - 16.00 at The Millennium Centre, Stranraer, DG9 7JP
• Dumfries 8th October 10.00 - 16.00 at The Usual Place, Dumfries, DG1 1BZ
All applications need to be completed via myjobscotland by no later than 21 October 2024. If you want help with your application, contact Donna Mann at placementplus@dumgal.gov.uk or phone 07387534698 (Monday to Friday).
If you are successful,
Step 1: A named Key Worker will contact you if you are successful in gaining an interview by email or telephone; we will offer interview support if required.
Step 2: In line with the funding requirements for these posts, all successful applicants will be required to register with Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Employability and Skills Service.
Step 3: If successful at interview, you may be required to complete pre-employment checks, for example, Protection of Vulnerable Groups/Disclosure Scotland vetting or ongoing substance testing.
