This vacancy is part of the Single Corporate Services Division.

The single corporate service is delivered across both organisations. You may be based at either IWT or PHU and individuals may be required to undertake business travel between sites. For leaders managing staff across multi-site locations, you will need to be visible and provide in person leadership. The arrangements and frequency will be agreed locally.
Job Description
Band 6 -Salary £37,338 - £44,962 per annum

Working as part of a Multidisciplinary Health and Safety Team this role will support the delivery of integrated systems and safe systems of work across both Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and The Isle of Wight NHS Trust. As a subject matter expert the post holder will provide advice and guidance to all levels of Trust staff on all aspects of Health and Safety Management relating to Manual Handling and Back Care, with a key focus on safer patient Moving and Handling, in line with national guidance and best practice.
The post holder will be required to lead and co-ordinate the delivery of Moving & Handling training across all staff groups and disciplines, ensuring that training needs meet all statutory and legal requirements throughout both organisations.
As a specialist Advisor the role will also require the ability to support and provide advice on the safe management and/or care for patients with specific or complex handling needs.
Job Summary
1. Promote a positive Health and Safety culture throughout the Trust’s, ensuring good standards of Health and Safety are implemented and maintained across a large complex acute NHS Trust.
2. Monitor and review legislative compliance, and the continuing development and provision of a safe environment for staff, patients, and the public.
3. Proficiently undertaking a program of audits relating to manual handling and back care.
4. Provide specialist advice and support to all levels of staff on Health and Safety management regarding area of expertise, ensuring compliance with current legislation and best practice.
5. Undertake accident and incident investigation, evaluating trends for thematic learning, prevention, and improvement.
6. Identify specific Health and Safety training needs relating to manual handling and back care, producing, and delivering appropriate training packages throughout the organization to a wide audience/staff group.

1. Specialist knowledge across range of procedures, underpinned by theory. Professional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by specialist professional knowledge and knowledge of mentorship, education and development practice, to postgraduate diploma level equivalent. (Or relevant demonstrable prior experience)
2. Ability to communicate complex/highly complex information to individuals/groups/committees in a comprehensive way
3. Ability to plan and organise complex activities or programmes underpinning relevant H&S topics and legislative requirements
4. Confident in preparing and delivering complex written reports
5. Confident to deliver training, presentations and/or reports to individuals, groups and or committees
6. Ability to develop and deliver a broad range of training and educational programmes relevant to scope of role
7. Ability to work autonomously, and as part of a team with integrity and confidentiality, managing own workload and demands
8. Confident to communicate and share best practice in Health and Safety (relating to area of expertise) to multi-disciplinary groups and all levels of staff throughout the organisation
9. Ability to handle difficult or complex situations with compassion and sensitivity
10. Ability to meet changing and demanding deadlines
