STEPS to End Family Violence - is seeking a dynamic and passionate Advocate who will be a member of the STEPS’ Criminalized Survivors Program (CSP) but based at the two of the City’s Family Justice Centers (FJC). CSP - the only program of its kind in the City - provides holistic support to survivors of intimate partner and other forms of gender-based violence who have been criminalized for their efforts to survive or resist.
The FJC Advocate will provide direct case management, advocacy, and emotional support to criminalized survivors who seek services at the FJC(s) and serve as the resident criminalized survivor expert both at the FJC where they are stationed and within the broader network of all of the City’s FJCs.
Responsibilities
* Engage in intensive legal advocacy
* Participate in weekly supervision and team meetings
* Facilitate support groups for criminalized survivors of GBV
* Provide survivor-centered emotional support to criminalized survivors of gender-based violence (GBV)
* In partnership with CSP Trainers, facilitate trainings at the City’s FJC on how to identify and support criminalized survivors of GBV
* Provide on-site, one-on-one support and technical assistance to other FJC partner staff who are working with criminalized survivors
* Actively participate in planning and implementation meetings with City actors such as the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence
* When possible, accompany criminalized survivors to their court appearances and actively engage with their defense attorney and other members of the defense team
* Other tasks as assigned by STEPS leadership
Qualifications
* LMSW, LMHC or other relevant, graduate degree, preferred
* Bilingual in English and Spanish, strongly preferred
* Strong and dynamic counseling and advocacy skills
* Ability to work with flexibility, independence, accountability, passion, and humor
* Meaningful commitment to practicing from an anti-oppressive, healing-centered stance
* Nuanced understanding of the dynamics of gender-based violence and systems of oppression
Salary:70,000.00/Annually
