Overview
Sign on Bonus: $500 (50% paid at 6 months and 50% paid at 12 months)
Compensation: $20/hr
The Relief Residential Counselor provides direct care to youth in one of YOU, Inc.’s 24-hour/7-day-a-week acute or congregate care settings. The Relief Residential Counselor is part of a pool of staff that provides intermittent and/or seasonal staffing support as needed. They work as part of a shift of staff, led by a shift supervisor, with the responsibility for creating and maintaining a therapeutic treatment milieu. Relief Residential Counselors are considered “essential employees” and may be mandated to work beyond their scheduled shift or report to work during declared states of emergency. They ensure the safety and supervision of youth, cultivate a therapeutic treatment milieu, maintain appropriate boundaries while developing supportive professional relationships with youth, participate in the upkeep and cleanliness of the facility, document client care as required, and utilize agency physical management interventions if necessary.
Responsibilities
1. Ensure the safety and supervision of youth through watching and engaging therapeutically with youth, monitoring and taking corrective action to mitigate safety risks, and reporting issues of immediate concern to the Shift Supervisor or the next level manager.
2. Cultivate a therapeutic milieu, promoting clients’ social growth, emotional expression, positive behavior, and overall functioning.
3. Maintain appropriate boundaries while developing supportive professional relationships with youth, including physical, emotional, logistical, and informational boundaries.
4. Participate in the upkeep and cleanliness of the facility, modeling and assisting youth in completing chores and supporting youth in meal preparation as needed.
5. Document client care as directed, including reviewing client intake reasons, completing shift notes, shift logs, and incident reports as needed.
6. Uphold client confidentiality and maintain HIPAA requirements.
7. Understand program/agency policies and procedures, maintaining up-to-date certification in CPI/De-escalation and Physical Management, First Aid, CPR, Medication Management, and Van Safety.
8. Be a reliable and positive team member, arriving on time, attending required meetings, and viewing clients in a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally-responsive manner.
9. Prevent crises through intervention, following the approved agency behavior management model (CPI) and focusing on verbal de-escalation.
Qualifications
1. Experience with youth required; group experience preferred.
2. Ability to maintain professionalism, ethical practice, and compassionate regard for clients.
3. Proof of a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and personal transportation is required.
4. Ability to adhere to agency ethical standards and confidentiality practices.
5. Ability to build rapport and work effectively with others.
