The Opportunity The Edinburgh College of Art is recruiting for a full time, Lecturer in Service Design on an open-ended basis. This is a new lectureship appointment in Service Design which will apply the successful candidate’s capabilities in design, research, teaching, impact, and knowledge exchange within the School of Design in the Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) and the Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI). The post holder will work with colleagues within these areas, with the immediate priority of teaching and teaching-related administrative responsibilities in existing Undergraduate BA Product Design and EFIs interdisciplinary postgraduate MSc Service Management and Design programme. Skills and Attributes for Success A PhD in an appropriate discipline, and/or possession of commensurate extensive experience in design practice, service design, policy engagement, or other highly appropriate fields for contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate design teaching programmes. Knowledge and experience of best practices in teaching and learning methods, and demonstrable ability to teach service design to undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Demonstrated ability to lead, conduct, publish, and otherwise disseminate world-leading design research in peer-reviewed journals, exhibitions and books and/or evidence of impactful design thought leadership through public talks, blogposts, contributions to policy white papers or other public engagement. Knowledge and familiarity with related debates in cognate fields such as product design, service innovation, design thinking, design research, data-driven innovation, human-computer interaction, systemic design and their contribution to the wider contexts of design’s role in changing global contexts. Possession of excellent and effective written and oral communication skills in a range of contexts (e.g., teaching, oral presentations, and publications), as well as good communication and interpersonal skills. Being proactive, flexible and self-motivated. Able to work independently, as well as collaboratively, within interdisciplinary teams.
