Production Chemist Based – North East UK Salary – up to £60,000 plus Bonus & Package Our client is a leading HTI waste management and energy business at the cutting edge of its sector. This is an opportunity to be a part of a new senior operational leadership team at the early stages of a National UK roll out. The role of Production Chemist will be responsible for managing and optimizing the chemical processes involved in the high-temperature incineration of clinical and hazardous waste. This role combines technical expertise with operational management to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant waste treatment. Key Responsibilities Process Management Supervise the production operation of the High Temperature Incinerator Plan and commence incineration batches as per instructions and regulatory requirements Monitor production processes and equipment, ensuring optimal performance Chemical Analysis and Quality Control Perform laboratory tests and analyses on waste materials and incineration by-products Conduct quality tests of finished products according to specifications Interpret results of laboratory activities and report to management Maintain accurate records of all chemical processes and analyses Waste Management Oversee the handling, storage, and incineration of clinical and hazardous waste Ensure proper destruction of controlled substances and confidential materials Manage inventory of chemicals, solvents, and raw materials Process Optimization Develop and optimize production processes for improved efficiency and environmental performance Design experiments to improve incineration processes and reduce emissions Identify and lead improvement projects for testing, production processes, and products Collaborate with cross-functional teams to transfer new processes from R&D to production Compliance and Safety Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental permits and regulations Maintain knowledge of chemistry involved in incineration processes to make informed decisions Support the facility's adherence to strict emissions regulations Contribute to the development and implementation of safety protocols Training and Leadership Train production personnel on chemical processes and safety procedures Provide technical guidance to operators and other team members Collaborate with HSE teams to maintain a safe working environment Qualifications and Experience Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; PhD preferred Minimum of 5 years' experience in chemical production, preferably in waste management or industrial settings Strong knowledge of high-temperature incineration processes and associated chemical reactions Experience with laboratory equipment such as HPLC, GC, UV/Vis, and other analytical instruments Familiarity with environmental regulations related to hazardous waste incineration Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail Strong communication and leadership abilities Special Requirements Ability to work in a high-risk environment with hazardous materials Willingness to wear appropriate PPE and undergo relevant health screenings Flexibility to work outside normal hours when required This role is crucial in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of our High Temperature Incineration facility for clinical and hazardous waste, while minimizing environmental impact and optimizing chemical processes.
