Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
An opportunity has arisen for a substantive Consultant post in the Urology department of the Planned Care Directorate at The Countess of Chester NHS Foundation Trust. This is a full time (10 PA). The emphasis of the post is to provide a Specialist Urology service along with the other 4 Consultant Urological Surgeons who work across the directorate to provide outpatients, diagnostics, day case and inpatient surgery.
They will be expected to take part in local and national audits of surgical outcomes and will be expected to recruit to national trials and publish outcomes. They will participate in a 1:5 on-call rota for Urological Emergencies. They will support teaching and training within the Directorate, encourage innovation and the development of team based practice.
The department has a bespoke unit for outpatients, urodynamics and lithotripsy. The candidates will be expected to integrate within the team of 4 existing Consultants in order to provide a complete Urological Service. Duties will be allocated depending on skills of appointed candidate and needs of the department.
Main duties of the job
This post is essential to meet the increased demand in Urology and maintain the quality of the management of urological disease, continue the provision of emergency urology care and work with the team to develop the service to meet demand.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Skills
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via - CCT or CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview - CESR or - European Community Rights
* An appropriate higher urological surgical qualification
Clinical Experience and Effectiveness
* Completion of an accredited higher surgical training programme or equivalent.
* Competent in contemporary methods of management of urological patients.
Teaching & Training Experience
* Evidence of teaching to medical students, junior doctors, other PAMS
* Operative teaching to SpR and CST trainees
* Management of local or regional teaching programmes
Management & Administrative Experience
* Good communication skills, especially with patients, relatives, GP's, colleagues, nursing staff and management. Experience in teaching, education of doctors in training and undergraduate students.
Research
* Presentations at international, national, and regional level
* Publications in peer reviewed journals Previous experience of Clinical Trials
Audit
* Evidence of: morbidity/mortality audit, unit and specific audit, and understand risk assessment
Personal Attributes
* Evidence of ability to work in a surgical team
* Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team insight ability to work under pressure
* Must demonstrate/be able to contribute to the development of the Urology department
* Must fit in with the ethos of the Urology department and work cohesively as part of the team.
