What you'll be doing
As a Senior Estimator, you will have the following accountabilities:
1. Lead areas of the bid process as allocated by the bid lead(s) to ensure that tender deliverables are produced in a timely and effective manner.
2. Support the Estimators within the team, including managing the workload and allocation of estimating resource within assigned bid teams. Undertake the role of Estimator on projects, where required.
3. Oversee and develop solution options and 'added value' offerings, and if appropriate, identify the attractiveness of a project based on sound estimating principles. Activities to include:
1. Review customer's drawings and specifications to prepare accurate costing sheets for materials, labour and equipment.
2. Ensure compliance with Balfour Beatty procedures, including pre-construction gate process.
3. Review tender documents and submission requirements, ensuring all financial information is identified and provided and accurate compliant proposals are included.
4. Agree with the operational lead the delivery methods, outputs and resource selection for self-delivered works including office and depot solutions.
4. Seek to understand, lead the development of and implement the appropriate digital toolsets to execute cost take-off and other estimating activities.
5. Attend or carry out periodic Tender Health Checks and formal risk reviews to ensure that the identified risks are mitigated as far as possible in tender submissions.
6. Ensure that cost planning and estimating are accurate and reflect the project requirements and risk profile.
7. Provide mentoring on bids to Estimators and the wider bid team, including commercial and technical advice.
Who we're looking for
You will have the following:
1. Previous experience of managing the process of estimating projects within the construction industry is required, including understanding related risk and mitigation measures.
2. Experienced in the use of estimating software packages, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
3. Membership of a relevant professional body and/or relevant professional qualification is highly desirable, such as RICS/CIOB/RIBA/ICE/CIBSE.
4. Working knowledge of best practice solutions and optimisation of innovative ideas and an understanding of the principles of Lean Construction and 5D cost planning is desirable.
5. Excellent working knowledge of pricing and quantification methods is required.
6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with partners under time pressure. Experience of leading a team is desirable. Able to be a strong team player, as well as work on their own initiative.
