To provide a co-ordinated, highly effective training service for the pharmacy department and other areas within the Trust.
To develop & co-ordinate a strategic approach to all training activities within the pharmacy department.
To contribute to education and training services and developments affecting pharmacy staff in the South & West region.
Delivery of a highly specialised clinical pharmacy service to promote the safe, rational and cost-effective use of medicines, through personal practice and the training of other staff.
To provide highly specialised clinical pharmacy services within a designated area of expertise.
To provide support, as required, to the dispensary services, medicine information services and medicines management programme.
To act as a non-medical prescriber in accordance with Trust policy and professional, regulatory and national guidance, to independently manage own case-load of patients.
Main duties of the job
1. To be responsible for co-ordination and development of ongoing rotational programme for junior pharmacists.
2. To act as lead mentor for pharmacists studying for postgraduate certificate or diploma.
3. To train, mentor and assess pre-registration trainee pharmacists General Pharmaceutical Council requirements.
4. To liaise with education and training leads from other professions within the Trust and to deliver or delegate training in areas such as therapeutics for non-pharmacy staff.
5. To co-ordinate and contribute to delivery of departmental contributions to the Junior Doctor Training.

Job responsibilities
1. Responsible for the provision of highly specialist professional, clinical and scientific information and advice to multidisciplinary healthcare staff, patients and carers regarding medicines use, making clinical recommendations tailored to the context of specific patients or situations, where clinical information is limited and requires specialist interpretation.
2. Working with the specialty care teams to develop and improve the services offered by the specialty in relation to medicines optimisation.
3. Performing or overseeing the monitoring and review of drug therapies for specialty outpatients, ensuring treatments are appropriate and comply with current guidance and Trust policies.
4. Provision of advice, information and education to patients and carers to improve adherence and encourage self-management.
5. To prescribe in accordance with Trust policy and Pan-Dorset Formulary.
6. To prescribe within own limits of competence.
7. To support the development of non-medical prescribing within the clinical specialties.
8. Provide high level, complex pharmaceutical advice on specialist areas of practice to consultants, junior medical staff, general practitioners, nursing staff, pharmacy staff, other healthcare professionals and patients and carers.
9. Work with relevant staff to reduce risks in medicine prescribing, storage and administration and ensuring legal requirements are met.
10. Oversee the supply of day case medications (if appropriate), including management of supply shortages.
11. Identify potential developments in medicines management and to improve the clinical pharmacy service to specialty care.
12. Support the optimisation and management of homecare services (if appropriate).
13. Manage Individual Funding Requests for patients as appropriate.
14. Contribute to formulary applications for medications used in an agreed clinical specialty.
15. Ensures medication errors are monitored, reported and managed in line with agreed Trust reporting mechanisms.
16. Supports the Medicines Safety Pharmacist (Medicines Safety Officer) and Clinical Pharmacy Manager to address clinical governance and risk management issues relating to the medicines use within the care group and ensures best practice is embedded.

Person Specification
Education, Qualifications & Training
1. Masters degree or equivalent in Pharmacy
2. Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain (GB or NI)
3. Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy
4. Good Clinical Practice Certificate (for clinical trials)
5. Independent prescriber
6. Current BLS training
7. Advanced Clinical Skills training
Knowledge & Experience
1. Substantial post-registration experience in Pharmacy
2. Significant experience operating at the level of a specialist clinical pharmacist or above
3. Experience in delivering a clinical pharmacy service to a range of specialties
4. Significant experience in clinical audit and implementation of the outcomes
5. Experience of line management
6. Experience in mentoring & coaching
7. Experience in managing change
8. Experience of using independent prescribing qualification
9. Experience of clinical governance including management of clinical risk
10. Previous experience of providing a specialist clinical service in a specialty
11. Experience in clinical trials GCP
