The Clinical Trials function of the Academic Department of Oncology and Haematology at the Queens Centre, Castle Hill Hospital is looking for a Research Nurse to work within the unit to support an increasing portfolio of Oncology/Haematology based clinical trials.
Applicants should be 1st level registered nurses and have significant acute nursing experience. Applications from job seekers who require current Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications.
Main duties of the job
Experience of working in a speciality with cancer related procedures/care or in clinical research, plus a mature attitude, are essential.
The post-holder will be required to work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team in the recruitment, screening and care of patients predominantly in Oncology/Haematology clinical trials. The post requires excellent communication skills, an understanding of scientific protocols, an ability to prioritise workload and to work independently and flexibly.
The successful applicant will need to be enthusiastic and ready to work actively to recruit patients in line with NIHR targets.
The post holder will work as a part of an established team of Research Nurses and Clinical Trials Assistants. Liaison with external research partners such as pharmaceutical companies, research networks and Clinical Trials Units will also be required.
Although the post holder's primary base would be within academic oncology and haematology, there is an expectation that the post holder will be flexible and responsive to the research needs of the organisation and may therefore be required to work in other research areas or as part of the 'Generic Research Team'.
Part time or full time hours can be negotiated. The work pattern will be variable between the hours of 8am and 6pm Mon to Fri.
Qualifications/Experience
* RN with at least 2 years acute experience
* Experience of working in a specialty with cancer related procedures/care or in clinical research
* Experience of working autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Evidence of continuous professional development
* Oncology and/or Haematology Experience
* Research experience or evidence and understanding of ICH-GCP
Skills
* Proficient in IT skills and software packages
* Evidence of Independent Working/Using own initiative/flexibility
* Able to prioritise numerous competing projects/activities to meet deadlines effectively
* Able to work autonomously, use initiative and make decisions
* Able to analyse problems and implement effective and appropriate solutions
* Working knowledge of the process of setting up and running clinical trials
