Band 5 Specialist Dental Nurse
Job Overview
Are you looking for a new and exciting position to support patient pathways and clinical excellence? We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, and forward-thinking Specialist Sedation Dental Nurses to join the Paediatric team at Birmingham Dental Hospital on a substantive basis.
The Paediatric department provides a multitude of treatments including dental extractions and restorative dental treatment under local anaesthetic, inhalation sedation, and intravenous sedation.
The post-holder must hold a post-qualification certificate in conscious sedation, be up to date with training, and able to supply a copy of their CPD and sedation log. Flexibility for travel to other sites/locations within the division may be required, and the post-holder may be asked to support evening and weekend activity.
We are looking to recruit to x2 part-time posts as detailed below:
1. Post 1: 0.6 WTE (3 days) Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (Certificate in Inhalation Sedation required as a minimum)
2. Post 2: 0.4 WTE (2 days) Wednesday and Friday (Inhalation Sedation and IV Sedation Required)
The Post Holder will support the clinical management of the dental specialty and ensure the provision of a high standard of patient care and adherence to all Trust policies and procedures.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service and manage patients with complex dental, social, and medical needs.
2. Stock control/rotation and the ordering of dental consumables as required from appropriate suppliers.
3. Prepare and maintain specialised dental equipment and dispose of clinical waste including bodily fluids.
4. Support recording of patient pre-operative assessments (e.g., height, weight, and blood pressure).
5. Carry out any other duties relevant to this role specified by the Dental Nurse Manager and/or Dental Nurse Tutor(s).
6. Provide clinical nursing support for sedation within the department to support the clinical patient pathway.
7. Identify relevant staff & students who require additional training within the specialty & escalate as appropriate.
8. Support the School of Dental Nursing, University of Birmingham, School of Hygiene and Therapy, and relevant Heads of Service to provide team training for all disciplines.
9. Adhere to procedures to support and maintain achieving national targets of compliance.
10. Ensure to implement agreed local Divisional and Trust Policies.
11. Implement outcomes in respect of Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement relating to the specialty.

Education
* Post Qualification in Sedation (IH/IV/Both)
* GDC Registration
* Recognised Teaching Qualification at Level 3 or Equivalent
Experience
* Significant Experience in Specialism
* Significant Experience in a wide range of dentistry
* Significant evidence of CPD
* Leadership/Management Experience
* Clinical Audit/QSIR Experience
* Evidence of informal and formal assessment experience
Skills & Knowledge
* Evidence understanding of clinical stock management
