The Opportunity: Due to continued business growth, we are currently recruiting for a Head of Department to join our Subsurface Engineering Department (UK North). This pivotal leadership position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of high-profile projects across the UK and Europe, while driving the overall success of the department. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in Utility Surveying and management, who is motivated and ambitious to lead the department’s growth and continued success. Reporting to the relevant Directors, the successful candidate will be based in our Birmingham or Manchester office, with hybrid working options available. What will I be doing in my new role? Take a leadership role in cascading the company’s culture, mission, and values throughout the department Manage all department projects, ensuring proper scope, timelines, and client engagement from start to invoicing. Track project progress, provide updates, and report on milestones and invoicing. Allocate resources efficiently, address issues, and optimize the estimating strategy. Ensure adherence to quality standards and implement corrective actions when needed. Build and maintain strong client relationships, generating future opportunities. Identify sales opportunities by establishing contacts with potential clients within the target market leading to the development of a pipeline of new opportunities that meet with the business strategy (e.g cross selling) Oversee subcontractor projects, approving invoicing and maintaining efficiency. Lead the team by providing guidance, training, and development opportunities. Support project planning, ensuring resources are effectively utilized and schedules are met. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a safety-conscious work environment. Monitor financial performance, manage KPIs, and create annual budgets for the department. Requirements of the role: Ability to work out of our Manchester and Birmingham office Possess a strong background in Utility Surveying/Subsurface Engineering with at least 5 years of experience in a management role Degree in surveying (or related field), Master’s degree beneficial Health, Safety and Environmental Training – SPA, RAMS, lone working etc Relevant Management Training Valid UK manual drivers’ licence Ability to travel nationwide when required What key attributes do I need?
